Does it leak only when it wet outside?
Does it leak only when the AC is on?
Does the water smell like engine coolant?

I had this happen before....

Was getting my car washed right after I bought the car, next thing I knew there was water in the passenger footwell. The water was coming from the plastic "grate" directly above the passenger footwell. I removed it, let it dry, and have not had a problem since. I guess that the water came from the "undercarriage wash", like water shot up a drain or vent. Thats all I can say. Good luck

If it were summer i would say have your A/C checked because it could be condensating or leaking. If this were happening to me i would remove the lower pannel and pour water on my windshild and let it run down into the gutters that are supposed to channel it out. Pop the hood and watch it from the outside and see if that could be it too if part of the plastic/rubber liner is loose or torn. Best of luck

The culprit to the problems is that there's a drainage box that is clogged . It's located in the engine bay on the passenger side, right underneath the windshield. I think the box is part of the ventilation system for the A/C. It is possible that it has been clogged. You need to take it apart clean it out. Water will continue to fill up the box and will overflow into the interior of your car. I know because it happened to me.

Same here

I have the same problem as this, (W220 water filling up drainage box and spilling into cars interior) and have only just worked it out yesterday. Have cleared problem (bunged up with dirt and twigs etc) and not awaiting car valet to dry out interior.

I have a problem though where the SRS warning light stays on now, could it be a case of just drying out the car and the light may go off?

Any ideas at all, welcome!!

Thanks very much

Water Leak CLK320 sport (1997)

Thanks for the advice on this one people.
Ive had water coming in to my car for some months....Noticed it come in from the holes in the dash just above the passenger footwell!
Was causing the car to steam up and get smelly...Not good really.
I somehow found this website and took the advise about the drainage box.
Its located on the passenger side and you need to take the grills at the bottom of the windscreen off....Remove the screws and plastic nuts that secure the next bit on (no need to remove the wiper). I couldnt get the whole thing off so I managed to ease up that part....Thats where I saw water sat at the bottom of the box. To the right at the very bottom a little tube comes off (only about an inch long) and gets rid of the water so it drops out under the car. It was blocked with just a few bits of leaves. As soon as i unblocked it the water drained. You can actually see the pollen filter which goes straight into the cab - When the water gets this high is just drains through into the car....Nasty! Couple of things extra to add....1) Beware of breaking the clips off when removing or moving the grills...They are quite brittle and I broke one off! 2) You can actually get to that pipe without removing anything....Its about an inch long and not a conventional tube...Looks more like a little pigs snout! You may be able to squeeze the gunge out without doing anything ??? Give that a go first as it may save you ten minutes of hassle!
Anyhow....Problem sorted ! Thanks to this site!

I probably should have updated this a while ago

In order to fix the problem, I took the bottom carpeting out of the passenger side footwell, and noticed that it was not coming from above, but rather from behind the center dash where my AVICN1 installers had knocked the AC hose out of the drain. I wiped everything down, and put the hose back in with a thick layer of caulking.

Thanks for this post. I've had the same problem twice when the car went through a car wash. I didn't notice it until the next day when the car sat in the sun all day with the windows closed and when I opened it up I was nearly knocked over by the musty smell; yuck. But subsequently I've taken it to the same car wash and not had a problem. Maybe my hole unclogged itself. But I'm going to check it out anyway. Many thanks.

Happened to me today!

Very easy fix, do not need to remove anything!
On passenger side, right below windscreen there is this big box, next to it at the bottom there is rubber short hose. It gets blocked. With your finger you can clear it out.

Would recommend to everyone to check this out because when this gets blocked you will have water pouring inside the car, and potential thousands of dollars damage.

True, but overflow should not drain into the car, where airbag module is , blower motor and interior filter...

same problem same fix

yeah same for me, water pouring in, the hole was blocked, like someone else said, you can actually get to it with dismantling anything, just slip your hand under the passenger side airbox below the windscreen, and on the corner underneath you will feel the rubber hose / cover. dismantled mine but will keep a check on it. funny though that the back passenger side got wetter than anywhere, must be the shape of the floor pan.

99CLK320,
check out the date on the first post. "True, but overflow should not drain into the car." But it does, anyway, below the plastic grate is a hole on both sides I think, maybe just one. that allows the water to drain out through to the bottom of the car and it usually gets plugged with leaves and road goop when this happens. clean it out and you will be good to go.
