Hello all, im sorry for those of you who are experiancing problems. I have a 05 clk 500 as well and i love the 7 speed (so far), and the gearing with the V8 is absolutely perfect imo.

2005 CLK500
I like the 7-speed transmission but just like many of you guys, i'm having the same problem in the morning. The car downshifts violently to 1st when i come to a stop. The car is fine after two minutes of driving. I got used to it.

Hi All,
The problem in Australia is we pay double the price for these cars, so if you can imagine that you layed out twice the amount of money for your car in the US and had these problems you would not stand for it.
So when you have a problem with your MB here in Australia the **** hits the fan big time because in the back of your mind MB cars are driven as taxi's in Germany.
There is no excuse for poor product especially from highend manufacturers, I cannot believe the treatment you seem to recieve from your dealers in the US but then again they are like any business, once they got your money they do not want to know you anymore unless you buy 2 or 3 cars very couple of years.

CLK500 transmission slipping
While driving in sport mode transmission is slipping between 1st and 2nd.
Seems to work fine in comfort mode. Any ideas on what the problem is
and cost to repair?

Could be low fluid. The 722.9 is a bit more involved to check than the 722.6. It lacks a dipstick. You have to check via "overflow", so you have to have the car lifted, level with the engine running, then get beneath to remove the drain plug, pump in extra fluid, and at the right temperature, check the flow rate. If this sounds complicated, then it may mean a trip to the shop for a proper diagnosis.

transmission slipping
My transmission (7 speed) was slipping between 1st and 2nd gear. Had my transmission fluid changed it was black. After 2 or 3 weeks it was working fine. keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck.

CLASS ACTION?
Hi, Does anyone know if there ever was a recall or class action filed on the 722.9 transmission? I have a 2005 CLK500 acting up and see from these posts there are many others out there like myself. Please advise?! Thanks a lot! Nicky

MBZ doesn't do recalls unless the NHTSB requires it. Class action suits do no good - no one is going to force a manufacturer to cover things post-warranty. This failure (assuming you are talking about the turbine speed sensor problem) is due to a defective $20 part supplied by Siemens. Unfortunately, it takes out another $1200 part and then takes another $500 in labor and fluids to replace. Siemens (and most other suppliers) contracts with MBZ don't require them to pay the high cost of this repair - they only have to warrant their part.
