2005 CLK500 Coupe
CLK 500 Transmission problem.

I have a 2005 CLK 500, the only problem i have had with the car is that the sunroof is not one touch, i have to hold it to close it. put 15000 miles on it so far.

My brother has a 2005 CLK500 also, he put only 3000 miles on it so far. he was driving and realized when he breaked and the car was at low speeds it downshifted and gave a harsh jerk before it came to a stop. he took it to the dealership and they changed some parts of the transmission but same problem was there, they then changed the entire transmission of the car, and then it was running fine, but the breaks were weaker, you had to push the breaks harder for it to stop, so now he has given the car back to the dealer and they are putting new breaks and new break lines on the car.

Has anyone else had this problem at only 3000 miles.

Yep, mine is doing the same thing. Though it only seems to do it when the car is cold in the mornings (not that it gets very cold here). If it becomes a problem outside of the first 5 minutes of each day, I'll take it in. But as it stands, it doesn't bother me too much. Oddly enough my wife's C230 behaves the same way.

The sunroof should open one touch. If it's not, you should take it in.

I had the same problem with my brand new CLK 500. It's a problem with the transmission chip - see the thread "Gear Shift Hesitation in CLK 500 (2005)" in the forum dated 5-25-05 to see everyone who also had this problem - almost everyone had to take it back to the dealer and replace the chip/transmission.

There's a procedure in the manual to reset the sunroof - try that first

you need to resync the sunroof...... tilt the sunroof and then hold the switch for more than 3 seconds (for w208, I think w209 is the same).

2005 CLK 500
2005 Clk 500 Sucks!!!!!!!

I recently purchased a 2005 CLK 500, and wasn't awared that it come with a vibration package. The car jerks, jumps and grinds when I accelerated or decelerated. Especially when I would slow down to a stop. And it's not subtle, I can feel it. Mannnn...... the car has it own moves, I'm telling you. Mercedes are doing too much, and trying too hard to beat other makes. And guess what? They SUCKS!!! Six speed transmission was doing fine, but no....had to come up with a seven speed transmission. Now, all the Mercedes with a 7 speed transmission are F/UP. My babied already had a transmission replaced when it was 2 months old. The car is 6 months old now. The problem is still occuring. I asked the mechanics there, what is the deal here, why can it be fixed? Sadly, I was stated by one of the mechanic, that is how the 7 speed transmission works. Basically saying "DEAL WITH IT". I am filing a complain under the Lemon Law for my car, and the arbitration hearing supposedly is this coming Tuesday Nov. 1st. I got a called from them this morning saying that there is an attorney represent them, and their witness ( Mercedes Rep) is in the hospital having somekind of surgery. Therefore, the arbitration hearing has to be rescheduled. Anyways, if anyone knows anything about how this arbitration works, please assist me, I am so lost. Thank you!!!

Yes, im experiencing the same problem. My transmission is doing the same thing. It jerks, jumps and grinds when accelerated or decelerated. Especially, when I would slow down to a stop. Would you please send me a copy of your repair statements? I'm trying to get as many proofs as I can in this matter, to support/make my case stronger for this coming arbitration hearing. Thank You.(cutechik501@yahoo.com).

MB is well aware of the trans. issue(s). Your local dealers should be replacing the trans. without question!!!

Hi, thanks for replied
Yeahh, mine does the same thing, whenever the car at a cold start. I already had a transmission and a control module(?) replaced three months after I purchased the car. I have this car for 6 months now. The problem is still occuring. The vehicle jerks, jumps, and grinds. Did u have ur transmission replaced too? Is the problem gone? If i when the case, i'm going to get me a cheaper car, atleast i dont have a hight expectation for it. I hate to walk away from Mercedes, but i've learned that looks aren't equal to quality. I used to owned a C230 coupe, and have no problem with it. That was y i traded it in for this $60k LEMON. I'm so disappointed, and furious in Mercedes. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MERCEDES.

you have to understand that you have a v8, and its a comlicated v8 that mercedes makes... i try to let my car warm up for a minute or 2 before i start driving... and if i dont have the time, i press on the gas very gently, untill i feel like the car has warmed up...

Exclamation

Grinding and jerking is definetly not a normal characteristic after a cold start/driving. The trans is designed to hold first gear longer when the car is cold to help the cats heat up quicker.

Wow that is completely unsatisfactory for MB!!! I would post a new thread with this info and get some pointers....Additionally, I would get an attorney ASAP for this arbitration. I cannot emphasize that enough, even if costs you a little, it WILL cost you if you DON'T!!!!!

So, is ur car still doing the same thing? I refuse to put up with this stupid transmission failure. The car note is too high to be dealing with this issues. Mercedes had let me down.

Yes, u need to let ur dealer know this problem, asap. And REMEMBER, to get a REPAIR INVOICE every time u bring the car in. And if a repair is not attempted or made, u make sure u write down all the dates that u brought ur car in.This is for ur own good, if u later file a claim under the lemon law.

Hi All,

We have the same problem in Australia, I know of one CLK owner here who has been driving around in loan Smart Car for 3 weeks because his 7 speed auto gearbox in his CLK is not yet repaired. It's a wonder someone there in the US has not started a Class Action. If you do end up going to a Tribunal Hearing you want to ask them to produce the history for all 7 speed gearbox warrantee repairs. I bet there will be some ducking & weaving will then go on.

This 7 speed box might be alright with a small motor but I don't thing it can handle being pushed to hard. Anyway a 6 speed auto is enough, I could not stand all those gear changes.

When the 7 speed works properly the gearshifts are almost seemless. Unfortunately, as with most new complex products a year or even two is needed to get all the bugs out.

MB's problem is they ship cars with know issues which end up in the dealer's service dept multiple times therefore pissing off the consumer which in-turn kills MB's initial quality ratings. What a system
