So now I'm curious: what's a 24 year old do for a living that he drives the same ride as me? Admittedly, a 4 year old CLK550 isn't really a lot of $$$, especially if you had a CLK350 to sell first. I paid about $25K for my 550, then sold my 2006 CLK350 for $12K.

I gotta unsubscribe from this thread; it makes me feel so old! Omega, I assumed you were 48+, as I was 45 when I chose my username, nearly 10 years ago!

the 48 comes from the street i grew up on in queens, NY.
all the older kids use to call me omega and then when i started to use AOL i needed a screen name and came up with omega48er.
Im still in college and no the parents did not pay for the car. i work part time as an office manager (the pay is not bad) and will be graduating next summer with plans of getting masters in I.T rite after i graduate.
i purchased the clk350 with 4k down and instantly knew i wanted the clk55 or 550.
i did not know how to get rid of the clk350 (only had 27k miles on it) with out taking a hit. then my sis says "Ill take over payments" it was a win win situation because she does not need to pay a down or any fees and i do not take a hit while still keeping that black beauty in the house.
Took me close to 6 months to find a clk550 the funny thing is that i turned 24 the car had 24k miles on it and i paid around 24 (then there was taxes and i got the extended warranty)
its awesome to see the demographics of the owners. we range from 20-60 and still love this car.
now i wish i already had a full time job so i could get a set of BALLER wheels! lol, but all will come with time.

I used to finance my cars when I was your age, in fact financed everything, running balances on my credit cards. I still believe though that it's a necessary part of the growing process, and, as long as you don't go overboard (like I did), you're basically betting on yourself to be better off financially in the future, which should be a good bet. Interesting difference in how we each found our cars: my 2006 CLK350's CEL came on, and Rudeney told me it was likely the dreaded balance shaft issue, so in a matter of hours, I found the one and only CLK coupe that was at auction locally that week, took a quick look, then agreed to buy it and sell my 350 same day. Never drove it till I owned it!

@Omega: it's too bad you don't live closer or I'd introduce you to my 19yo granddaughter - she could use a boyfriend like you (unlike the last two losers who didn't even have cars!)
@Eddie: Talking about financing, we usually lease car. My wife likes that because it's always under warranty and she knows when she's getting a new car. She has never, ever, had a used car. I've leased and bought about the same over the last 20 years or so. I bought the C240 outright to drive for a few years and then pass onto the granddaughter when she turned 16. When that happened, and I needed a car, decided to go with something used I could just pay cash for. When I found the CLK, the dealership (a luxury used-car supercenter a block from my house), they offered me 1.99% through a local bank, and I could not refuse - it's like getting free money at that rate. What I hate to hear are people going into debt over their heads to buy a used MBZ and then not being able to afford the repairs on these complex cars.

its tough, i attend class full time work close to full time and still make enough time for the family (and gym, gotta love the gym). btw, i think every guy should have a car... its a manly thing i guess. lol.
to me financing made the most sense. i could have paid for half the car, but they gave me 2.8% which was equal to roughly $2,500(if i recall correctly) in interest. i rather pay that much in interest than dump all the money i have into a car.

I'm soon to be 72 and wonder each time I get in or out of the car whether I should grow up an go back to the S class. As they say "there's no fool like an old fool".

Poo on an S Class. I turn 60 in 3 months and always say I'll know I'm old when I stop driving a convertible.

Rodney's knowledge belies his age.... I too once thought he was more mature..
Yidney, I'm 66 and my barometer is; if I buy a car with more doors than the house I grew up in, it's time to warm the bed pan.....
mrbobby, if the next C63 (or whatever) has curves similar to the S, I will be looking at it in a serious and lustful way.

Good point Yidney. If only the W 220 had come in a convertible model.
