ECU reset
Will these instructions work for a CLK500 2003?
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
Many thanks,
Mike

It should work fine; it resets the adaptive transmission shifting to a more aggressive setting. Since the adaptive transmission starts adapting alll over again, you may want to do it pretty often if you normally drive gently or in stop-and-go traffic.

Reset Procedure
I took my clk550 in for a check yesterday; was concerned about intermittent hesitation and some cosmetic stuff. They could not duplicate the hesitation (not surprising), but did flash the ECU. As an added possible cure I executed the transmission reset procedure. I did not notice any difference in the shifting on the drive home. I did the reset procedure after reaching home; took the car out for a bit of a test last night; there is definitely a difference....

FYI, this procedure does not reset either the TCU or ECU. It resets the calibration of the drive-by-wire accelerator pedal to the electronic throttle body. Apparently, these can get out of sync and cause some odd shifting and even delay in throttle response, so the procedure would definitely help with that.
