Help - Warning msg that rear back up lamp is on
Hi All,
For the last week or so, I am getting a warning on the dash; tail lamp right back-up lamp on. The lamp and bulds seem to be working fine so I am not sure what is triggering this. I have reseated all the bulbs and made sure they are functional. Doesn't matter if I engage reverse or just turn the car on a go forward, it still comes up.
The freaking message keeps poping up everytime I start the car and I don't know what do to or how to reset it from showing again. It's obviously a wrong fault code is triggering it, maybe wiring. I have never touched that area of the car since I have had it, so it's not modified in any manner. Any suggestions?
Thx

I had this once with a rear licence plate light. Warning on cluster, but light working. After a few months, the light wasn't working. Took it out and nothing wrong, except a slight corrosion on the contacts. The diagnostic tests routes a microcurrent though all the circuits. If the resistance is not perfect, it triggers the diagnostic fault alarm.
Try burnishing the bulb and socket contacts....

OK, so i swaped all the bulds from right to left. Now I get that same error msg on the left. Fine, so I go out and buy a new set of bulds for the back-up lamp since that's what it's complaining about. I swap both sides just in case and I am still getting the stupid error. I again re-checked every bulb, moved them around since most are standard across the different sockets and no matter what the heck I do, I can't get rid of the msg.
Pissing me off......
ALL that is left is to spend $50 and replace every freaking bulb on both lamp sockets just in case. Now Im starting to wonder if that msg is standard regardless of which bulb is bad on that particular side. Can't be the the backup bulb since I replaced the both.
Any idea from anyone on how to reset the msg?
Thx

I got the same error last night on both bulbs.
Swapped the smaller one (GE2619) 12VR5W and one error went away. All other bulbs tested fine with an Ohm meter. But the error persisted.
Swapped the upper bulb (GE1057F) because the interior had that silver I'm-about-to-fail look. Error vanished.
I used similar bulbs I had laying around, so it's off to the auto store to get the proper ones.
