Question Tinting Recommendations

In AZ, tinting is a must. I have a CLK-500 cabrio (black on black) and it is time to get the tinting done.

With so many options out there, I was wondering what brand you guys would recommend. (Since it is black&black, I didn't know if Huper-Optik was an option; it is supposed to have a grey look.)

Thanks for your insight!

Any lifetime tint should work... except that Huper junk. I hate that mirrored look on all cars, on black it would be even worse.

Front sides must allow 33% of the light in (and not be more reflective than 35%). Rear sides and back can be anything.

Since I have a convertible, shouldn't the front/back sides match for a better look?

By the way, there are no stickers or obligations showing illegal tint here. They are pretty relaxed on the law...

I would say go with even tint all over. I find different % tint on a coupe looking bad.

Here in MASS they are pretty strict on tint. I wish i could run 20% all over

Oh hai, I'm in Massachusetts and I have 25% all around.

On my W203, I used to run 11% on the front windows and 7% on the back ones.
Got pulled over once for the tinted windows/exhaust/tinted tails, just a written warning.

I use 35% all around! Black interior does help too in making it look darker! Thinking to 20% my rear though...

I have 15 on the sides and 5 on the rear/

You really dont want to run two different amounts on the sides because the way the windows match up.

I didn't have dealer plates on the W203, so that was pretty ballsy haha.

I wouldn't recommend doing that on the CLK. Since there's no B-Pillar, the difference in tint will be really obvious and an eyesore.

I have 15% all around. Had it done at a tint shop. I wouldn't trust myself doing it They also installed some felt in the doors to prevent tint from scratching. Forgot what film they use but it did have lifetime warranty.

i am talking about the rear window only not the two rear side ones.

And wow that sure is ballsy lol. Now if they catch you they give you a warning and you have to appear in court with a picture of your car with removed tints.

If you do it again after that its a 250 fine

I forgot to tell my shop to do that. If i am correct its called moleskin and prevents scratches.

I do have a few scratches on them but do have lifetime warranty. I might talk to them to pay a fee for them to re-do it and install the moleskin this time

Yeah, I didn't have to show up in court or remove the tint when I got pulled over. I got off easy.

Here they just keep giving you a $54 ticket when they feel like it. You don't have to go to court.

I've seen those posts on an older thread too. I wondered about the moleskin. I also wondered whether it was an issue for the installer - having the windows going down and up when the doors are opened and closed. Any problems there?

Thanks guys for all of the feedback!

MY friend owns a G35 and his window goes up and down like ours when doors are opened or closed. He has moleskin installed and i remember he did it after i got it done and when the installer was asked to do so he only mentioned a $30 charge.

lol, I didn't get the felt when I did them. Now I started to get a scratch on my rear passenger window. I will be doing them again before the summer and installing this tintprotector.com

They make it look very easy to install. I wonder where those 3 screws are. Price is good though

I guess it really makes sense to get it done right the first time and avoid the hassles.

No one really mentioned product though. I wasn't sure about ceramic, regular tints...is the concensus to 'just get a lifetime warranty and who cares the product, as long as it looks good'?

i would say who cares about the product as long as it is lifetime. If it looks good it is good to me lol
