Well you have 2005 so you have D2B fiber optic network with COMMAND 2.0 and bose amp in the trunk. I'm 99% sure the propitiatory bose fiber will not be compatible with the Dynavin dvn-mc2000 or any other after market head unit.

You can see the connections on the site, low quality pics

http://www.dynavin.com/products/product_dnv_mc2000.php

So I'm 99% sure that you will need to run audio wires to the trunk and replace the amp with normal type. You can look for 2ohm amp and reuse the existing bose speakers or use 4ohm amp and replace all the speakers. From the sound perspective replacing the bose speakers will definitely be much preferable as the bose ones are junk. But then its lots of work to do it.

What I still do not know is if the unit will interface with the Mercedes D2B fiber optic network. Looking at the diagram it will now.

I still need to check if removing the existing head unit will cause anything that needs to be corrected in the D2B network, perhaps not. Now your CD changer in the glove box might be another issue if thats on the network. I need to read up on this.

Ok, looks like D2B "It is typically used to connect the Head unit and CD changer, and phone where fitted." So the existing head unit you and I have (well I have Audio-10) and the CD changer in the glove box is on the network. You might have the phone on it as well if you have that option. Removing the head unit and replacing with the Dynavin will remove the headunit component from the D2B network breaking the network loop. You would need a Fibre Optic lead to complete the ring network and prevent an error. Might also need someone with the Star computer to remove these options from the cars setup. Same goes for the CD changer that you will no longer be able to use, it needs to be removed from the network. Now I have no idea if these Dynavin units have any integration with our cars console display and the steering wheel controls, I do not see anything about this on their website so I would assume you will need to purchase PAC components to retain that functionality.

Also the Dynavin head unit has a build in 4x50w amp so you could use it to power 4 speakers and not replace the bose amp that would be rendered useless... I would still get a spperate amp.

I think the same, but somehow i've found some posts, that it is possible, but changing for post- facelift MOST is possible when you rewire. So i guess, maybe there is some way to do it.
I am still not 100 percent sure.

here you go

https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...market-hu.html

it converts the steering wheel CAN protocol to the protocol on the SWI). So any radio that is compatible with the SWI piece will work.

Did you ask Dynavin, if it would support D2B?
Cause the first reply that i've recived from them was, that i would need an adapter. When i asked about details they've regarded me to their authorized distributor in EU. No more info about that.
Somehow, i cannot imagine how the adapter would work.

I'm about to send a long email to them. Not sure what I will learn. I think they are confused. Adapter would be needed to plug in to the cable harness they are using but I'm 99% sure it will not interface with the Mercedes D2B network. Thats OK but there might need to be some extra work needed with the Fibre Optic leads and reprogram in STAR. Not sure about that. Removing the existing head unit and CD changer will cause any other devices in the car on the D2B network to fail. not sure if thats an issue. I do not have anything else on the network as far as I know. Maybe the phone interface that I do not use anyway. I can talk to my Mercedes mechanic about this.

Thanks let me know. But i dont care about other features. I am concerned about the bose amp and stock speakers. I hope it will still work when changing the headunit.

So far it looks like you will need to replace the amp and run two wires to the trunk from the head unit. This is more then you might want to do but honestly its not a very big job at all and the cost of the new amp should be minimal depending how big/high end you want to go. The Bose amp is not the greatest anyway. Now the key will be to use an amp that will drive 2ohm speakers. If you do, then you will not need to deal with replacing all the speakers. Sure, from the sound perspective you would want to replace these speakers with something even mid level to get much better sounds, but using amp that handles 2ohm loads would allow to keep the existing speakers.

FYI, if all goes as planned I will have a local Mercedes mechanic do a test install in my car of the dvn-mc2000 in near future. I will keep you posted if that moves forward.

Thanks darius.

I was thinking about changing the amp for an aftermarket 4ohm stable amp and as a member bheng suggested, using hi/lo converter should provide working with current 2ohm speakers. I will be probably changing the speakers later on anyway, that is why i am looking at 4ohm stable amp.

Does any of the speaker in the car have preamplifier? I think not, but am not 100 percent sure.

06 CLK350 Cab
w209 and Dynavin DVN-MBC Model

I know that this post has taken a few turns, but wanted to post some info I got from one of the resellers (caraudiocraze.com). Im not sure if this has been specifically established, but for my 06 CLK Cabriolet with the Harman Kardon system - the MBC model for the w203 C class will not fit - it is to small for the in dash area of the car. The gentleman from caraudiocraze (Trent) was able to talk with the company and validate this - it looks the same, but the unit itself is smaller for the C class. Also, if you look at install kits for a regular radion (face kits) you will see that a C class and a CLK are diferent dimensions. The silver lining is that my contact was told that they are currently working on a CLK version - I have not heardback from him on a solid delivery date for those items at this time. I am currently looking at doing a double din install, but wish this had worked out.

I should have dvn-mc2000 within a week or two and will work on getting it installed in my 2003 CLK. Will investigate integration issues and document the install.

my only concern and hold back on buying this, is the lag time between switching from program to program. for ex... navigation to music display or to video
i hate lag times. also the quality of the display. compared to the original.

I guess I will find out how quick it is. I don't care much personally about navigation, I know where I drive and how to get there maybe 90% of the time. How do I get to the local store ot the bank? let me enter in the address and get some directions.... The maybe one time a month I need to get out to some new client, I can look things up on google maps if I don't know it by the address and do not need turn by turn directions. Wife on the other hand loves it in her new E as she just got to use it to get to kids b-day party few towns away. I guess I love it too as she no longer calls me in the office and uses me as a NAV along the way

My unit is here in the US and I just paid for it so should have it shortly. One good news is that the illumination looks orange and should match our cars instead of the red one show on the website that matches BMW.

I did read reviews of varies models from Dynavin and people pointing out some issues etc, but honestly every unit I tested in BB had some UI issues and then none of them would fit and look stock in the car. I'm not crazy about the aftermarket look of the other units. This one looks factory and hopefully will fit well.

Its also two units as in the audio part and the computer part thats running Windows CE. This opens up whole world of possibilities. It might be possible to even replace it with some linux distro. Ubuntu in your car anyone?

You can even run things like MP3 players in the windows part and there a quite a few to choose from. Some allow to build custom UI that would match the car and be easier to use. http://the-gadgeteer.com/2000/03/31/...ows_ce_review/

I'm looking forward to hack this thing to use by BT phone to tether by 3G internet and then I can VNC out or SSH out to a server if needed from my cars head unit Not that it would be very useful or that needed but to me its a very cool option to have

Hi, I got the unit last week but it has been extremely busy with programming projects. The unit looks great and now I have to assemble the other parts needed for the install like the amp, cables etc. I will try to take some pictures of the unit and hopefully will be able to get all the parts required soon for the install. From what I understand this is the only unit in US right now. Hopefully soon they will be available. You can contact Jeff about this, www.jandtdistributing.com/dynavinsolutions
