05 CLK500 softop unable to fully close

The softop would go through the cycle of closing but just as the softop and the base finally goes in and latch it just stops
No blockage and holding the switch would still have the hydraulic working but it would just not fully close??
I tried it multiple times to no avail...

..also there's no error message and softop would OPEN OK....

Here's the pics were it stalled (closing softop)

2004 W209 CLK500 Convertible
LOL same EXACT thing happen to me 2 days ago. Be sure to push down the Glass window before pushing the Cover Canopy in. Otherwise its out of sequence. The Mechanic quoted me $2900 for the pump and relay installation. the pump alone is $1500-$2000. However a convertible specialty shop said that's BS and he could fix it for alot cheaper. So Monday I find out if its the hoses or really the pump.

Here are the instructions for installing the pump on your own:
http://w209forums.com/showthread.php...Hydraulic-Pump

I thinks its time for me to get a slammed CLK550 hardtop with dual exhausts.

Re: Push down window, out of sequence - tried that and still would not work, repeatedly open and close to resync but still no good.

...it looks like that the canopy need to hit a limit switch for it to complete the cycle, I would assume that the hope that someone can provide some schematics so that I can troubleshoot before taking to the stealer...

Keep me posted and will do the same if I found the fix...

....GOT IT FIXED! it seems that the roller was not fullly triggering the limit switch (refer to pic) .. opened and closed soft top for about 5 times...OK.... so I quit while Im ahead

..but will still keep the appointment with the stealership (had it for next Thursday)....will try it over the next few days and hopefully that was it....then can cancel and save some $$$

Mine did that about a year ago. Cost from the dealer was about $800 to fix they told me it was one of the latches broke. You can tell that it is going bad by when the top closes it makes a loud popping noise when the glass pops in place. The bad news is I think it is the weak part on the top because when they fixed it the first replacement part that came in was already broke, and it sounds like my top is starting to make the noise again.

That's the exact switch I was going to tell you to look at. I took some pics before go to work today and was going to post it tomorrow but you already found the problem. I'll post the pics anyway.

..now I found the other gremlin....

after checking there's another limit switch (refer to photo.JPG) that needs to be triggered to full complete the last phase of closing the top. The switch was not making the contact and had to slightly pry it.....now it works like a charm.... did it several times OK..... (refer to photo1.JPG and photo2.JPG).

though think that the switches are OK.....but at least now I know and just need to replace it if its necessary.

hey rl1213,

i have the exact same problem as you. when the cover hits the latch it stops. won't do the final phase.!
does you or anybody else know if there should be a switch in the latch hole. i don't see any plastic or something that is triggered.
i can see a green thing, but not a switch/plastic piece

anybody knows or can have a look if there is a plastic piece in your clk w209 convertible in the latch hole ( rl1213 picture - last post )
