Gearbox 722.6 jerky for CLK200 2006/2007
Dear All
I hope you guys can advice me, cos this will be my 3rd Mercedes purchased in the past 1 year. My other ride is a W126 300 SEL and W124 260E. Since this is going to be a newer model Merc, I am sure there's more attention needed because it has more electronics.
After test driving few similar CLK200 vehicles, I eventually paid a deposit for this vehicle after considering specs and in totality the car drives great. Except that it is slightly jerky or hesitant when shifting up with mild throttle input on lower speed (2-3rd gear) from standing start. On other gears the transmission shift is smooth and crisp. This car is an AMG spec so it has the paddle shift on the steering with C, S and M setting to choose the gearshift response.
Firstly I took to my regular workshop to check everything including jacking up the car plus computer diagnostics. No error was found plus he reset the transmission so that it would re-learn my driving input. After a few miles driving, the shift problem remains the same.
Secondly, The sales car dealer also help to check the car at their regular MB workshop and ran the codes to check on errors, non came out. Did the same reset on the transmission. The jerk still remains. However the mechanic advice me to drive the car a few hundred miles for the trans to familiarized my driving style. The car dealer gave me an assurance that they will repair it if there really is a problem.
After reading a couple of thread in this forum, i notice some CLK had almost the same problem, pointing to the Valeo Radiator leaking water into the gearbox to be the problem.
Question:-
1) Should i still drive it longer if the car now is currently fitted with Valeo Radiator? Concern it will eventually damage the transmission even more.
2) Upon getting the car (probably next week), should it go for a full service gearbox oil change?
3) How long after a diagnostic reset would the ECU need to re-learn the driver's driving style?
Appreciate everyones feedback.

I didn't know CLK comes in a 200 model. I thought the lowest was 320?

The CLK200 comes with a 1.8 supercharged engine just like the W211. Output for the late model is around 184hp with 5 speed gearbox. Engine performance is really peaky so this is the only one I drove that has the manual paddle shift +\- on the steering. Not sure the trans ecu could be setup that way.
The others don't have the slight jerk or lurch in low speed only....now I'm putting some miles for the ecu to recognized my driving style. It only has low mileage 12000km for a 2007 model.
Anyone experienced this before?

The coolant leaking was from earlier builds (up to '03 and very very early '04).

Mine came with the M,S,C settings. There is +/- behind the steering wheel.
Don't think it's the gearbox mount because i sent to the mechanic before buying the car and all looks good.
Not sure how long it has been sitting in the garage back in UK, i was told by the dealer that they only brought this car into Malaysia end of 2010.
Would anything changed on the ECU part if i were to change the gearbox fluid early?

Hi,
It looks like I have a quite similar problem. I have a CLK 220 CDI (this engine is available in France on CLK) from 06' with the 5g-tronic gear box
I bought it one year ago in Mercedes official network, and it came with a one-year full warranty.
I experienced small jerks with the gear-box from the beginning so I brought it to official Mercedes garage to get it checked.
Since, they have changed both gear box and torque converter, but the problem still remains... Now they tell me that this jerk is "normal" and my warranty ends in two weeks...
The problem I have is that when driving in mode C, and starting from a full stop (red light for instance), the transmission is sometimes (I would say 80% of the time) doing a small jerk before changing to 3rd gear. The jerk can be small (not easily noticable) of quite violent.
Does someone knows where this can come from ?
Thank you

but given the fact that both the gear box and the torque converter were changed (I guess the fluids too) and that it didn't change anything, can it be the reason ?

If the radiator is leaking coolant into the transmission fluid, then it will continue to cause problems until it is fixed. Having coolant in the transmission won't necessarily hurt it, but it changes the hydraulic properties of the fluid. Of course after driving it for a long time like that, it can harm the transmission.
