2004 CLK Convertible Roof Rattle

There's a buzzing/rattling noise that seems to come from the right passenger area. I thought it might be the "flip-up" piece on the roof cover (tonneau cover). Dealer can't find the source of the problem.

Anyone experience similar problems?

Advice?

Thank you!

Mike

Most cabriolet top noises can be solved by using the proper cleaner and lubricant on the seals. If it's an actual metal or plastic rattle, you may have a broken tie down on a hydraulic line. Open the top halfway and then look between the layers, comparing right side to left side to see if you can find it.

Hey Mike,
my 05 rattles like crazy in the winter time. Just lube it up and the noise is gone ( for a while )... I wouldn't use WD40 though

Lubricating the rubber seals will solve squeaking noises, but rattles are usually broken cable ties on the top's mechanical and hydraulic control lines. As for lubricating the rubber, go ahead and get the "real" stuff from the dealer. It's not cheap, but it's amazing stuff and a bottle will last for years.
