Command Radio Unit Problems

Hey guys, I have just found this site and I am hoping that someone would be able to give me a little help.

I have a 2006 350 clk. I am having a little trouble with my DVD Navigation system that is part of the Command Radio Unit. I noticed the display screen was becoming very warm to the touch and now it is not working at all.

How do I replace a worn out DVD Navigation drive from the Mercedes Command Radio Unit without having to purchase the entire unit? Are there any other suggestion you guys might have for dealing with this problem or know of someone in the Maryland area that would be able to help?

I seem to recall a company advertising (maybe on the forum?) that repairs COMAND units, but I can't remember a name. It may be just as cheap to buy a used unit. Or, replace it with an aftermarket system (which would probably give you more features and performance for less).

I was quoted $2,300 for a new Command Radio Unit at one dealership and $1040 for just the DVD Navigation Drive. I am defiantly open for options. Do you know of a way to identify compatible after market units. Do u know of a web site that does this?

Looking for a few options................... I sure would like to know the name of the company that repairs the DVD drives.

Probably cheaper to buy a replacement aftermarket than fix as Rodney stated.

Doing a little leg work with the search function will yield some great info on this topic.

I came across an eBay seller that repairs COMAND's, thinking I had found a ridiculous low price for one ($190)
COMAND repair
BTW, searching COMAND threads would be so much easier if folks spelled it right....(this is not a "grill/grille" dilemma...)
