320 CLK Cab Headliner Trim

The plastic trim (bezel) attached to the headliner around the rear window of the convertible top is coming loose on one side. Several of the tabs for locking it into the aluminum frame around the window are broken off. In addition, the headliner fabric is pulling the trim away from the rear window during operation of the top, putting strain on the remaining tabs.

The headliner and the top are in great shape. All other aspects of top operations work fine.

Has anyone else encountered these problems and come up with successful remedies?
Thanks.

What year is your CLK? If its a 2003 or earlier, then you have a W208. The W209 doesn't have any trim around the inside of the rear window on the cabriolet.

It's a 2001. Thanks for the clarification. I'll post to the correct forum!

Though if you have any recommendations, I'd be most grateful.

I was looking at WIS and it appears that the trim piece is glued in place. I can't find any details about "how" to glue it, but it mentions breaking the glue seal for removal. If you don't find any help on the W208 forum, check with your dealership parts counter - sometimes they know more than the service advisors.

That part number is 2087780133, I got it for 42 dollars including shipping, but you have to put the new one to the headliner and then click it back to the window. This part will crack offent after the sun hitting with out U.V protection, I always rather fix it with the way it was mean to be, just in case I would want to sell the car.

Thanks very much for this info. The part number remains valid.
A question...how is the trim piece attached to the liner?? As best I can tell, it is sewn.

@Stewart

No such luck, it has to be sewn into the plastic. It is difficult to find a trim shop that can do it. We had to replace the client's liner to resolve issue. Sucks!

Thanks once again. I hate to ask.....whats the cost of replacing the whole liner, and how much of a job is it to tackle this? Something a "do it yourselfer" might have a fighting chance at?

Glue,

i had the same problem, i glue it and this is how i fix it permanently.
1) 3M Adhesive, Super Trim. Part Number: TRM-8090:
glue wont damage any material, and works to glue the convertible top.
i try so many and they all fail, so dont waste you money in any other than this. is also waterproof.
2)Un du Adhesive Remover:
just in case you didnt do a clean job, this can clean any extra exceeded work, also work great to remove the glue from the leather, plastic and glass, living the place like nothing even happen
3)heat gun:
use it for a few sec after applying glue, press fabric and let the the fabric cool, heat it again for a few seconds and press. do this for 3 to 5 times, in a small area at a time, i did this in a area of 3 to 4 inches long at a time.

Note:
this items will also help to glue the convertible top, or any material, i even took that ugly fabric in the bottom of the door that was coming off, and i put leather with this glue.

1999 CLK 320 Cabriolet
1999 CLK 320 Conv. HeadLiner

Upper Plastic Bezel Frame attached to Head Liner cracked.

Lower Frame Half - MB Part# 2087780133 is available.

Is the Upper Plastic Bezel Frame available separately or am I on the hook for
a new Head Liner?
