Aftermarket Navigation Unit for my 2005 CLK55 - Thoughts?

Hi,

I saw this on ebay and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with it. Last time I checked, there wasn't any aftermarket navigation systems that fit with the 2005 CLK55. Thanks!

Welcome to the group. No there isn't a direct fitment unit. A few have done aftermarket units with some work, so it can be done. Use the search and you'll see what has been accomplished.

Thanks for your post. I've actually had a chance to read that thread. That's why I was surprised to see this unit which specifically states that it is for 2006+ CLK's.

You can get some fantastic double din head units these days with Garmin GPS and a wealth of CD/DVD/MP3/etc features.

Twice the size as a single din head unit....

Its the size that fits in our cars, single din are the common thin units that are about the same width as the thermatic unit.

i suggest going to an aftermarket audio store and looking at their top tier double din units. i mean functionality is all there whichever brand you get, but i think it came down to its GUI for me. you will be the one using it over and over again.

btw i have the pioneer avic 1000bt. i think a couple others got the kenwood dnx and jbondox swears by the alpine units.

If I hook you up with a link it's going to be a top of the line very expensive eXcelon unit. I agree with Mr. bheng, just go to a car audio center and take a look at a bunch of different options. You'll be sure to find one that suits your requirements and budget.

I'm a Kenwood fan for obvious reasons.

I thought that eBay unit in the OP looked pretty promising, very OEM-like. Do we think it won't fit, even though it says it will?

hello,

the dynavin is OK if you want OE looks.

Kenwood is OK, but take a look at the new Alpine units also - the new unit w. 8" display seem to be a very fine unit.

But if you are in the iPod/iPhone fraction I think you are better helped with the new Pioneer units, they are by far the best for "iProducts" at the moment.

Anbyway, if you are not confident, then go to your local car-hifi pusher to look and listen - if he can can show a good installation or 2 to you, then you can consider to use him for your project.

Interesting, I went to www.crutchfield.com and according to them, there's no navigation unit that will fit my car. I'm guessing that they're wrong?

Can anyone confirm that this will fit in my 2005 clk55? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...7B-MZ2347.html

Also, I called a local installer and they said that my car likely has fiber optics and it'll be really difficult to install ($$$). Is this correct?

Thanks everyone.

Thanks!

That's not the corect dash kit, as far as I know there is only one proper one for the '05+ 209 and it's from a UK seller, both myself and member 'gretch' have used them, if you search our posts I'm sure you'll find the link/info.

Yes the car has f/o but plenty of us have done aftermarket systems. Go to an audio installation center and ask them the questions, in person they will explain to you that it's not difficult, in the end it's pretty much just a deck, amp & 4 like everything else.

Saw the E-class model at Essen Motor show last year, and the European PM proised it woud be released (see P10) - thought it was already.
But it seems that even the E-class model is on hold.

Pre-facelift is on p8:
http://dietzshop.com/images/Daten%20...5bf4ae1ab5a826

But if the 2005 CLK 55 is the facelifted model the scosche kit will fit.
Else use Dietz - high quality and know how.

Interfaces:

If your installer doubt, then change him...

This is not a huge operation, when all materials are there, then it is plug & play

Cool, I found it!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3504984640...ht_2240wt_1016

By the way, do I lose anything if I hook up an aftermarket to my car? For example, I know that the clock on my dashboard is adjusted via the comand. Am I going to lose the ability to update my clock?

Hi,

I am thinking of using a similar unit from China. How did that unit work out?
Did the dash interface and steering wheel controls work?
How does the unit sound?

A review of some kind would be great.

Hey Kev can you confirm if this is the UK seller for the dash kit?
I bought mine from Schoche and it does fit but its tight around the edges?!

I got home and had it installed locally, it fits and looks very factory, the touchscreen isnt the greatest, I didnt receive the SD card with the nav, and yes it does work with the factory steering wheels controls and factory amp, I had after market subs and wiring installed also, as Im content with it as far as MP3/ WMA and DVD the iPod controls work great, but Nav, touchscreen "accuracy" and options that many high end in dash's have this lacks alot. sorry for the run on I just got in from 72 hour Ops and im beat with no sleep!
