2006 clk350

Hi, I just bought 2006 clk350. The vin no is WDBTK56G36T057081.
I don't know the problem already occurred or not?
It is 104k now. Could you please check the engine falls in the affected range? Is there any way to know that it has been already taken care of? It is an AMG.

Thanks

All MY2005 and MY2006 vehicles with the M272 V6 or M273 V8 will be in the range for potential balance shaft failure. Your CLK350 has the M272 so it's in the range. Regarding mileage, there are two schools of thought here. One is that the affected balance shafts will fail early and if you get over 100K miles, it's less likely that you have a bad one. The other is that all of the balance shafts were defective and will fail, just that some will fail earlier than others. Only MBZ and the supplier know for sure, and neither one is divulging that info. Anecdotally, it does seem that there were more reports of balance shaft failures in the forums with low-mileage cars as opposed to those over 100K.

MY2008 will be beyond the balance shaft problem range. Only MY2007 needs checking. Ay xx350/xx550 prior to MY2007 is in the range, after MY2007 is out of range. MY2007 is half/half.

I'm about to sink big money (to me) into a 44k mile 2007 S550 4matic and I'm just now learning of the balance shaft issue. I'd better slow my roll...

Can anybody help please with a VIN Check to get my engine # and see if this vehicle is affected?

You might be saving me $4-$6,000 so THANKS IN ADVANCE IF YOU CAN HELP!

.

How much are you paying for this 2007 S550 4matic ?
I am a big fan of this particular model year and with such low mileage it must be in very good condition .

This one has M273 engine #80908, which is in the range for potential timing chain idler sprocket failure.

I have another potential one with good miles/price point so this is the deciding factor: WDBTJ75H86F179720 also how do you figure out whether or not it is within the range? I ask just so I won't have to post back here every time I find another potential buy.

EDIT: I see now since it's a 2006 it is in the range already, how likely is to have occurred around the 82k mile range? I'm trying to use my head over feels but it has the exterior and interior color I want!

I think the general consensus is two things: (1) that it happens to a fairly small number of cars in the affected range; and (2) if it is going to happen, it can happen at any miles.

My own view is that given how relatively inexpensive these cars are now, why even bother thinking of one in the affected range unless you have proof it was fixed already. If you are looking at high mileage cars to save money, then the price difference between one in and out of the the range is what - maybe $3,000? Not worth it to me. Plus you get a newer car.

WDBUF82J24X161871 - That's a MY2004 E320 with an M112 engine - no worries

WDBRF87H26F798618 - That's a MY2006 E350 - all MY2006 xx350's are "in the range" for balance shaft failure.

That's a MY2010 - no balance shaft worries. Only MY2007 needs to be checks - any M272/M273 engine before that will be in the range. MY2007 was half/half, by MY2008 it had been corrected.

I have a 2006 CLK350 that has been setting for about 9 months with various issues. I am trying to determine if it is worth repairing or part the car out.

Please check my VIN for Balance shaft issues.

VIN: WDBTJ56H56F182917

Thanks!
