Oh, I see the problem - this is a MY2011 - My copy of EPC only goes through MY2010. You don't need a VIN check, Only MY2007 needs checking. Anything earlier with an M272/M273 engine is "in the range" anything later is fine.

Thank you very much for the reply, Rodney.
Just to clarify. I'm shopping both of these cars as they are listed used with low miles but are both listed as featuring 3.2L V6 SOHC 18V engines. Is this possible? I can't seem to find any definitive information showing that a 3.2L was available in the C280.
Thanks again.

All "xx280" cars since MY2006 will have the 3.0l V6 version of the DOHC M272 engine. The "xx320" cars were the 3.2l V6 cersion of the SOHC M112 engine.
Oh, and I just relaized I forgot to post the engine serial number for your first VIN (WDBRF92H07F928376) - it's M272 #593526 (also beyond the balance shaft problem range).

Hi Rudeney, I'm looking at two used CLK 550, a 2008 with WDBTJ72H38F257635 and a 2007 with WDBTJ72H47F218387, can you please check them for balance shaft and magnet issues?

Hi Andy,
Both of these are beyond the problem range for timing chain idler sprocket failure (that is the V8 equivalent of the V6 "balance shaft" part that fails). All MY2008's will be beyond - only MY2007s need checking. And that one has M273 #104230, which is good.
As for camshaft solenoid (magnet) failure, the MY2008 is beyond that range, but the MY2007 is still in that. But - even if those fail it is an easy repair (even DIY), and parts are around $100 for all four.
My advice - go with the MY2008 as later is always better. That is, unless the MY2007 is just a better equipped car and a deal you can't refuse.

balance shaft
This site has been bombarded with the question if my vehicle qualifies under the subject vehicles for the balance shaft settlement, yet I am also asking if you could please verify my investigation.
I went to the site www.neoriginal.ru/cat/mb/ and entered my VIN.
The engine and transmission #'s that are shown from VIN entry, should I also find that matching # on the engine and transmission that are actually installed on my car? And if that is true, the engine # 272 942 30 184 130, I would deduce is within the range for the class action?

I have vin# WDBUF56J06A945089
Is this same class action suit against Mercedes as the Case No 12-cv-05493 (TEH)?
thank you. I may have asked before, but nothing but run around at this new stealership. really don't know why I still have this car. But i keep dumping $ in and I then think I should use longer. only to have to dump in more. Maybe i will wise up and get rid of it soon. I just keep thinking i have replaced nearly everything on it and now it will probably last another 10 years!
UGH!
