How do you fix plastic headrest covers?

I could not find anything searching c or clk forums but surely this has happened to others. I noticed the plastic covers which sit on the back of the headrests for the rear seats have come off. They have all four plastic clips broken.

Has anyone successfully glued them back on or purchased them for a reasonable amount? I am not sure that glue would stick between the cover and the black "grid". I think the gap would be too large.

I suppose the same question would go for the glove box cover on the side of the dash. The last owner of this car had some skills for breaking things.

This happened on our C240. I used silicone to reattach the headrest cover. I ran a bead around the area where it mates to the leather covering. It's been holding for several years now.

Thanks for the advice. I was considering that but I thought I would make a mess. Did you use any specific sort?

I think I actually used black RTV because that's what I had, plus I knew it would be strong. Of course you have to be careful not to make a mess, so clear might work better for that. By the way, in case you don't know, to cleanup excess silicone sealant before it cures, use a paper towel or microfiber cloth to wipe away the big blobs, then acetone on a microfiber cloth for any residue.

Thanks for that. I have some RTV grey from when I last sealed breather covers, that would probably work well. I will post my results once I find some acetone.

Try velcro instead of a glue.

Do you velcro around the outside? Or in the middle? This would be like thick double sided tape. Im thinking the glue would be more permanent.

I like using silicone because it's easy to work with, holds tight in most all environments, and can actually be disassembled an cleaned up if you ever need to do so.

Mate, I have two of those headrests (black) spare from the c180k (w203) that I traded in for the 32. If you have made a mess let me know and will post them to you.

Haha thanks heaps for the offer. I haven't yet had a chance to get some more silicon to give it ago but I can certainly foresee a mess in my future. I will let you know when I create a big sticky, plastic, leather ball of goo.

Yup, I can't find them. I had a good look today for the 180k ones. Sorry again Thomas.

Thanks for looking. I actually just finished gluing the plastic covers back on today. It looks perfect, unbelievably there is no mess. It should be cured by tomorrow. I also glued the plastic trim back onto the side of the glove box- no idea how someone would break that.

Its amazing how much harder it is working in a car with tints. Can't see anything without a torch.
