Hood Clunks on closing

Soft Top cover driverside flaps/wing Clunks on opening
Hello All
I have a 2007 CLK 280 Convertible Sport, just developed an issue with the soft top. when opening everything is fine and smooth, until the flaps go down after the soft top cover closes then there is a very loud clunk from the driver side flap, but when closing again everything is good
Does anyone know what this is?
you help would be much appreciated
Thanks

I assume you are not in the USA, so you are referring to the soft top and not the "bonnet"? if so, this could be several issues. One common problem is that the plastic keeper on the soft top cover hing breaks. Open the trunk (boot) lid and check the cover hinges to see if you have any sort of odd plastic "arm" dangling from the center of them. If so, just break it off - yes, break it off. That plastic arm is only used as a safety catch on the hinge to hold the cover it in the open position when servicing the hydraulics.

Hello
Many thanks for that, I am based in the uk. I will have a look as you suggest. Sorry, when I say hood, you are right, I mean soft top.
The noise seems to come from the the flaps (wings) that go down last after the soft top lid closes (with the soft top down)
so going through the sequence,
press and hold button the soft top open button
flaps lift on edge of soft top cover - no noise
soft top cover opens - no noise
soft top fold away - no noise
soft top cover shuts - no noise
flaps on the edge of the soft top cover go down (passenger side no noise- Driver side big clunk)
everything is then ok
only clunks from the driverside too, passenger side flap/wing closes no problem. But I cant see it catching on anything, but it might well be what you are saying.

I doubt the noise is coming from the flaps - they are thin plastic and they slip into very small catches so there's not much there to make noise. The hinge lock is what can really make a loud "pop" if it's broken. And that is articulating just as those flaps slide into place. Check this post for what the broken piece looks like:

Yes, they do appear to be intact. I am not sure what would cause the noise. Maybe you should have a friend operate the switch while you (carefully!) observe the moving parts to see where the noise is coming from.

Yes I did sort it out. There are small rollers on the underside of the main hood cover. These get sticky and stop rolling so the hood tries to move but the rollers stick then it eventually gets pushed by the force of the hydraulics and this is when it clunks

Hi Rodney
thanks to point out the wrong rear hood as it from W208 model as I just taken it from online.
i found another post which show the rear w209 hood close with the rollers .
i think this is the roller Balley is talking about, I will try to lubricant them on next weekend and see it will resolve the issue or not .

Yes - better diagram. And I think there are adjustments on the three bolts that anchor the "J" shaped hook to the body. They are bolts #10 in this WIS doc:
