Transmission Issue (Please Help)
Hey guys, I ran into a problem while driving my 06 clk500 on the highway one day. I was just driving normally and looked at my dash and noticed the "S" and "D" letters where not there next to the mileage like usual. I tried downshifting/upshifting and got nothing. Pulled over and turned the car off and back on. Put the car in drive and got a quick jerk as the car went into gear. Started driving but car stayed in first gear. So i took the long way home going 25mph and about 4 miles from my house the car started shifting again but the "check engine" light came on. Took it to the shop the next day and they scanned it and got a "serial communication error" code. The car also kept dying everytime they cleared the code. So they replaced the battery cleared the code and everything was fine. The next day the same problem happened. I was just driving around town, the "S" and "D" dissappeared again and the car stayed in first gear for about 5 minutes then started shifting again but the check engine light is on again.
Please help, i just spent 300 for the battery and computer check. I'm a college boy and don't have that much money to be throwing around. I really love my merz and dont wanna have to get rid of it.

2006 was unfortunately a troublesome year for the 722.9 7 speed transmission.
The vehicle is going into limp mode. You need to have the vehicle scanned with a Star computer at the dealer or a Snap-on Solus or similar that can read MB Transmission codes.
We need to know why it is going into limp or we are just guessing.

hey thanks for the input, however i don't have the 722.9 7 speed, i have the 5 speed 722.6. I did some research and have a strong feeling the conductor plate is causing the issue. Its been known to cause a problem for this tranny. But yea i'm gonna take it to the shop so they can diagnose it again and figure it out.
