Spark plug choices

It's about that time as I'm just over 180,000 km (about 110k miles).

Looking to change my plugs, I have found some options and wondering what you guys thinks what some of the benefits or real improvements of going with one over the other would be.

Also is there any reason to change the wires as well.

NGK standard plugs about 60 shipped from ebay. (rated 30k miles)

Bosch OEM equivalent plugs about 100 shipped from ebay.

NGK iridium IX plugs about 135 shipped from ebay.

I used Bosch OEM. I did some reading about the subject when it was time for me to change and saw no real reason to get anything other than oem.

Also check out autohausaz. They are having a sale on spark plugs and you might be able to get some cheaper over there.

I used Bosch ignition leads. I used NGK laser iridium's as I didn't want to touch them again for 80,000km and I *believed* they were the best spark plug- obviously this can be debated.

If the leads have not been changed ever then I would change them. I did it for piece of mind. I didn't notice any change in power, smoothness after changing either leads or plugs but it was running great beforehand. I just assumed they had never been touched.

I went with the NGK iridium. No problems and on my last CLK 430 they helped a bit or maybe it was the beer!

Hi M-Rods,
There are a lot of choices for spark plugs. If your CLK is not running any power adders, I would recommend using the OEM spark plugs. That's what Mercedes engineered the car to run best with. Take a look at the Bosch 7422's, these are the Platinum OEM plugs. We could get a set to you for $82.88, shipped to your door.

Not a problem at all for the shoutout!

Just a quick question: what are power adders that you speak of?!

Turbo's and superchargers would be considered power adders.

Can't remember if there were referring to spark plugs or plug wires. I read that the regular Bosch and the made-for-Mercedes Bosch parts are not the same. The MB ones are much better.
