Trunk Open Warning...but its not.

Recently my 03 CLK500 started to warn me my trunk was open, but its not. I've searched this and every other forum to see if I can find a hint on the problem. The trunk opens fine with the Key, the inside switch, and the handle on the trunk.

The other mystery is the alarm system is not arming with the Keyfob lock. The lights do not flash and no audible signal (I realize the audible signal can be shut off but the the lights should flash). The lights flash when unlocking. This has been a problem since buying a year ago. Car has 35000 miles and well cared for. Not sure how this could be related to the trunk since the trunk issue just started.

Any thoughts?

This could be a problem with the rear SAM. It is the common component between the ATA system and the trunk lock. It has diagnostic codes that can be read with SDS.

SDS ? Like the code readers at the auto parts stores?
Do you think the alarm and trunk things are related? Thanks for the reply.

SDS = Star Diagnosis System, this is MBZs proprietary diagnostic tool. Dealers have it as do a few indy shops. You can also buy a "Chinese clone" version for around $500. There are also a few other high-end systems that can read MBZ's system. Carsoft is one. You can get a "Chinese clone" version of it for around $100. It can only read and reset codes, and only works through MY2004 vehicles, which would work for your MY2003.
