Ventilation/fan noise?

I have a 2003 270 CLK and it suffers from an irritating noise. When you corner, it sounds like a screaming cat from around the heater assembly. Also there is a non-speed related ticking noise like a fan catching. I removed the heater fan from above the passenger footwell and the noise was just the same. The noise doesn't come from the engine and as it is not speed or Rev related, I am at a loss. Can anybody give me anY advice?

NO LONGER ACTIVE
So it makes this noise with the heater fan not in the car? I've not heard of that. I have heard of the fan bearings getting weak and the centrifugal force of cornering causing it to bind.

I wondered if there was any other fan within the system. The aircon works but has no bearing on the noise.
