Strange Noise in Engine Compartment

I noticed some strange noise from the front. The noise is like a DvD player trying to read a bad DVD. I thought it was the CD player but I still heard the noise when I removed the CD tray.

I can only hear this noise while the car is stopped in a quiet night.

No much response here, maybe my description was vague.

I tried to trace the noise inside the hood. I could not hear the noise because of the engine noise. Is it possible it comes from behind the instrument clusters.

It is quite annoying.

There is a fan in the overhead console (front dome light) that moves air across one of the ACC cabin temperature sensors. These can fail and continue running even after the igntion is switched off.

No noise when ignition is switched off. I can hear the noise only when I drive in a quiet night, especially when I stopped at the red light.

It sure sounds like a CD or DVD drive tries to read a bad disc.

It could still be the OHC fan. I just mentioned that they do sometime fail and continue running. But listen to see if it's that with the car running.

Could be the forced air fan under the hood that runs when the engine is cold, as they age they become louder, sounds like a CD whistle
