2008 CLK350 convertible top question

I have a 2008 CLK350 convertible. The top has worked perfectly without any problems until last week. When I pull the switch to put the top down the following happens.
The top releases
The cover part between the truck lid and top moves up and back.
The rear portion of the top raises up.
After that, nothing happens, it just sets there.
Here are my questions.
Can I assume the Hydraulic pump is working since the top started to go down?
It seems to me, if the pump is working I probably have an electrical problem.
Perhaps a micro switch some where is malfunctioning.
What I need is a detailed step by step description of what happens as the top is going down. I assume as each component moves, a switch actuates telling the car it is ok to start moving the next component. I would appreciate any useful advice. Once I find and fix the problem I will share that information on this thread.

My first thought is that the luggage cover is not fully engaged. Mine will do a partial too, but the dash does tell me that it is not fully engaged. I am assuming you are not seeing that error but I would make sure it was fully pulled down.

I'm not getting any notifications of any kind. I do know what you are talking about but that is not what is causing this. There is a micro switch that actuates when the "rear deck lid" moves up slightly and back. I'm going to concentrate on that. If that fixes it I will let everyone know what I find. Meanwhile I would love to have a wiring schematic or a detailed description of what each micro switch does as the top is going up and down.

Mine was doing this and I was also getting false readings on the luggage cover close/open switch. I asked the dealer to look at it during a service and they detected a cable that was interfering with the switch or something. They fixed it no charge (but I'm still under extended warranty with my 2009, so not sure if the free fix is common).

while I,m not sure were the cables are supposed to be situated when the top is moving up and down, they appear to be in the correct position. I did come across another article on line that shows the location of all the switches. I have not done any further troubleshooting using this info yet.
The link I found is pasted hear.

Smile I found the problem

It ended up being Limit switch S84/22. Compartment cover position limit switch.
