Is my dealer lying to me? m272 balance shaft 100% coverage
hi ive got a CLK350 2006 that falls in the range for balance shaft problem, the car currently has 83k miles and has been running totally fine (although the thermostat did go wrong about 2k miles ago)) but other than that its been totally reliable. ANYWAYS Since I've found out about the balance shaft issue ive been paranoid as hell so for good measure i called my local benz dealer which i get all my major services at (mercedes of tysons in corner in northern Virginia) and I spoke to the service manger and asked him that if the cars balance shaft does go wrong that if the dealer would fix it under 'goodwill' he then looked up my benz and saw that we bought two benz from that dealership and have both of them maintained there. He said that based on the loyalty and relationship we have with the dealer he said that if the balance shaft goes wrong that they would totally cover the cost of it. He later mentions that though Mercedes never did a recall they have been very good at fixing the balance shaft for the m272 AS LONG as the customer has been getting theyre benz fixed and maintained at the dealer (he also mentions that they will only replace it if the car has less than 100k miles and that in a year or 2 Benz might not replace it for free). SO I just wanted to get of everyones opinion on this becuase im not sure if this guy is feeding me crap or if this dealership really will do that. And if you guys have any experience with this sort of thing please chime in.

Not sure what sort of answer you are looking for here. If we told you the dealer is lying, what would you do, go call them liars? Any repair to an 83K car is a goodwill repair. Some do it and some don't. We have no way of knowing if they will honor it when the time comes. You could ask for it in writing I guess. Likely it won't happen anyway if it has not yet.

lying or not, you should just be thankful that the dealer will repair it under "goodwill". like yidney said (i doubt if they would), but ask for it in black and white. you'll never know if that manager will still be there when the time comes.

Actually, what the dealer is saying is pretty much the premise for a "goodwill" repair. There is no official policy on whether a goodwill repair will be approved, but generally, if the dealer recommends it to the district office, and it's a definite known problem like this, it will be covered. Basically, your dealer is telling you that they will go to bat for you on this based on your historical relationship with them, and this is pretty typical.

Search Facebook for Mercedes balance shaft problems.
In the past there has been no help but a recent California cout decision requires compensation. This decision was April 2015 so it is new.
Earlier class action suits were in favor of mb.

If it was me, I'd be happy to have a dealer that valued my loyalty and extended the possibility of a goodwill repair. The lawsuit that was formalized in April this year is invalid as soon as the car turns 10 years old, or the odometer reaches 125,000 miles. At your mileage level, I think I remember the suit stating that 37% of the cost of the balance shaft repair will be covered by Mercedes Benz. So, that's really all they're required to make good on (until the car is 10 in a couple of months).
Don't worry about it…it may never happen.

My dealer wants to charge me $7,000.00 to fix my 2006 E360 Balance shaft. My car has 83,000 miles on it. Do you think I can purchase extended warranty and have the dealer to fixed it. It is a factory defect.
