Fuel Injector cleaners
Do any of you W209 owners use a fuel injector cleaner additive in your cars?
I used a product called Liqui Moly Jectron a few years back and my crankshaft position sensor failed soon after - not sure if it was related or merely a coincidence.
My shop keeps recommending a similar product everytime I bring my car in for service and i've been a bit hesitant since.

I just use the Chevron fuel injector cleaner every so often (5k mi) and stock up on a couple when they have a sale at the local auto parts store.
I think its recommended/used by some of our members as well.

rather than the Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner, I like to use their Fuel System Cleaner with Techron...purported to be the same as the Fuel Injector Cleaner but with more Techron (higher concentration in the bottle)...
I believe that Techron (proprietary to Chevron) is a Mercedes approved cleaner and I have had great service from it with other cars...watch for it to go on sale at an auto parts store near you ...
when comparing prices, be aware that there are different sized bottles...I go for the "treats 20 gallons" version...
You don't need to get excessive with this stuff...I use a bottle when I wake my CLK350 after Winter storage and use Top Tier gasoline when filling after that...

Personally I don't think it does anything. I've never used it and never had issues. If the injectors had issues you'd throw a light fairly quickly.
Also, I just don't feel comfortable using something you can buy in the car isle at the supermarket.

FWIW before an oil change I will add Techron concentrate.
The Techron seems to remove carbon and blacken the oil at that time.
I would assume the Techron is also removing fuel varnish from the fuel lines and injectors.
Run the tank to empty, refill, get oil changed.
Using top tier fuel in a rotating brand fashion is what many will recommend to keep the detergents in the fuel working at optimum. In my area I have the choice to rotate between Shell and Chevron.
I have no issues to report using this described system over the year in both motorcycles and cars.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Is there any truth to the potential premature failure of camshaft/crankshaft position sensors from the (improper) use of fuel additives?

Hi mvp81,
For last couple of years I'm using Red Line SI-1. It is quite cheap and I do not see any difference in quality betweet Red Line and any other expensive brand.
You can review this product on following link: http://injectorcleanermanual.com/red-line-si-1-review/
Hopefully this was helpfull.
Thanks

i agree with Kenny945...... use the 20 oz Techron "FWIW before (BEFORE) an oil change I will add Techron concentrate." As an FYI, a few years ago, my 2007 CLK550 was running a little rough & the master tech at my MB deaelrship put in 20 oz techtron & he suggested I use techron regularly due to low useage (I put 3k miles/ yr on the car) I would strongly suggest using techron before your oil change. good luck
