Compare please.
Considering the purchase of a 2004-2005 CLK Coupe. I am familiar with the 320 motor, but, not the 500 motor. Can I expect similar reliability problems with the 500 or would it be more problematic. Any opinions/comments would be welcome.

the 2004 and 2005 CLK320 are the same mechanically. The interior in the 2005 model will be newer (facelifted interior) with different navigation, console and overall better interior. The 2004 and 2005 CLK500 differ mechanically. For the 2005 model, it has a 7-speed transmission vs. the 2004 model which has a 5-speed transmission.
Rudeney can further elaborate on the differences between the two cars but those are the really big ones.

The CLK500 uses the M113, which is basically the same as the CLK320's M112 engine with two extra cylinders, and slightly longer strokes. These are called "modular" engines as they share many of the same parts. Expect the same stellar reliability from the M113 as the M112. KB is correct, though about the transmission. In MY2005, the CLK500 (and all MBZ V8's) came with the 722.9 7GTRONIC transmission. the earlier versions (through MY2007, maybe 2008) have some issues with bad conductor plates and fluid pumps. Later versions are better. My advice, for a V8 CLK, either get a MY2004 CLK500, or a MY2008+ CLK550.
