Check Engine Light - Gas Cap Replace
Check engine light came on yesterday, was thinking it might be the MAF. Took my CLK to the dealership today - supposedly the gas cap isn't holding pressure and needs replacing. I read on some other threads here that this can cause an issue too and the CEL light comes on so I hoping that really is all it is.
They want $300 to replace the cap and reprogram the computer. Rather sure they are raping me hard on this.
Just for my edification - how much should this cost me? lol

Wow. $300. That's criminal. Yes, it can cause a CEL. You have a system that captures gas fumes from your tank. A leak in that system will trigger an evap system code. The cap is part of that system.
