Fuse 8 - What is making it pop?

I want to make my RCL (Remote Central Locking) system work on my 2004 CLK320 Cabriolet. Fuse 8 pops if I insert a new fuse. Naturally, RCL, the Alarm, and the Tipping Sensor all do not work. One of those systems must be causing the fuse to pop. Any suggestions on the easiest/best way to determine which system of the three is doing it? I want the RCL to work but do not care about the other two (Alarm and Tippng).

Its most probably caused by your alarm siren. they have a small battery that shorts and causes the fuse to keep getting blown. If your inclined its not too hard to reach, just disconnect the suspect part (in this case the siren) and replace the fuse again. if its doesn't blow then replace the part. There was a post not long ago on this forum where somebody was having the same problem; in the thread were details about how to get to the siren and so forth.

If you need a replacement alarm siren this might work: https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...arts-sale.html

Smile It Worked

Many thanks for DanielFD as well as Rodney for the information they provided to help me solve this problem. IT WORKED! Got in to the siren module and pulled the plug. Replaced Fuse 8. Both Keyfobs work. Radio (FM and Weather) much better reception. Entry Alarm condition flashes the headlights - I'm not interested in having the audible alarm. LG.

The information available via this forum is fantastic - thanks to all for sharing their knowledge.

It worked great for me. Rodney on 01May2014 posted:
"Yes, you need to lift the vehicle and remove the front passenger tire, then remove the rear portion of the fender shroud. It's very easy - just a few bolts and plastic keepers to remove and then you can pull the shroud out. You may not even have to remove it completely - the horn is near the bottom.

That is where I found mine but mine is in US. For UK, I would guess it is on the driver (right) side of vehicle. Others on here may know better.

Excellent found it! Thanks. Its in the same place. I practically took off all inner arches to find it first though, through various tip off's. As suspected it's batteries had leaked all over the fuse board of the alarm. I'm now wondering as to replace it for new or not? As the horn now sounds when ignition key is turned, I guess as a back up, due to the alarm being removed? I have temporarily disconnected the horn. Hopefully this removal of fault alarm will resolve the battery drain.......I'll let you know in a few days.

All the dark black is acid leak from back up batteries.

There it is hiding behind the metal housing. n/s/f wheel. uk r/h/d clk.

Again from further out.

Any ideas where to get a cheaper replacement alarm in the uk? other than a benz dealership.

cheers.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2005 CLK320. Mine was on the passengers side. I got the replacement siren at www.parts.com they sell only genuine OEM parts. (Thanks to Rudeney's suggestion) Mine cost me about $150 and I did the labor myself. I do not know if they will ship it that far?
