Lifter noise or EGR Vale ?
Hello Everyone so I am encountering a weird noise under the hood . Its a ticking noise that makes my car sound like a diesel truck . I didn't get a chance to investigate it but after reading a few fourms it can either be an egr valve or a lifter . I am due for an oil change and I was thinking of trying an engine treatment for the lifters before I get into the engine itself . Anyone resolved this issue ? and how much work is it to change the lifters ? I need to do a valve cover gasket change anyways . Thanks in advance...

Check for exhaust leak also. They can sound deceptively like what you are describing, especially if they are small leaks. My very low tech way of locating sounds like this is by using a length of garden hose as a stethoscope and probing different areas until I find the source.

Yes but when you look up "it's normal" in the Dealer Speak to English translation dictionary it translates to "we have no idea". i have never heard my lifters getting louder. I have heard an exhaust leak get louder.

Maybe it is the purge valve. Standing in the front the car, this purge valve is located on the right side of the front engine cover.
I have had this ticking noise for a while.
