Has anyone been able to make a backup of navteq DVD?

So a month ago my maps dvd (original 2007 ver NAVTEQ DVD) started having issues starting up. I've never taken the thing out before (never needed to). Upon taking out the DVD I found a spot on the disc that looks like something has been hitting it repeatedly (maybe the staring point when the thing boots up). Anyway, I tried cleaning it etc..
Before doing anything else I made a backup iso copy of the disk on my computer (took a few tries because even it was hitting the bad spot which failed the crc check). I was able to get a good backup though.
I burned a new copy on multiple DVD+R disc's but never got one to work. I then bought a newer one on ebay (2011 MCS2 part A169 827 76 59 ) and that won't work either. The only disc that works is the original 2007 DVD and that only works 10% of the time. Am I missing something here? Thoughts?

I did this once on my Lexus . You will need virbatim multi layer DVD r 4.7gb .get a few you will make a mistake trust me. Also you will need to burn it at the lowest burn speed possible no more than 1x . What program are you using ?

irokdastar.. DVD +R or -R? Also, there is no such thing as multi layer 4.7gb, multi layer is 8.5gb which I have (otherwise the burn will fail since it wont fit)

I'm using Brasero on Ubunto OS to rip and create the .iso. As far as I know this should be as good if not better than most other software out there. There were no errors during the rip nor any with the burn. I compare the original disc file structure with the new one and they're exact. I even went and bought a new one on ebay [/url]and that didn't work ... Has anyone been successful making a working backup of the MCSII DVD?

Here's is what I bought on ebay

sorry i ment 8.5Gb . 2 things you should consider . Mercedes might use double layer instead of a multi layer disc. you might need dvd+R DL . Also at what speed did you burn the disk ? make sure its on 1x

Burned on 1x with a +R DL. I just haven't tried different brands. I don't think there is a difference between Dual and Multi layer, they're the same thing. Thing is I've searched forums and google and there are a lot of people saying "I think you need to ..." but nowhere can I find a confirmation of someone saying "YES, I did this" with regard to an MCSII disc.

Still stumped why the one I bought doesn't work either. I don't need to go into some engineering screens and do some update for the newer one to work do I?

People have offered pirated DVDs from time to time, but I do not know how they do it. I can confirm for sure that any year DVD will work - no updates or interim discs needed. There have been other times that people have reported discs that won't read, and it's a player issue, not a disc issue. That may explain why the new one won't read. As for the spot on the old one, you can try what I do when my wife brings home abused movie DVDs from the library that freeze - I use auto rubbing compound and polish the scratches out. Works every time.

And I meant to add that if you start searching about your problem, you will find people who say that you need to load successive year discs in order, and even that dealers say that. Then you will think "that Yidney guy is full of it." Trust me - they are wrong.

Thanks Yidney... Guess I'll try getting the scratches out again. Really wish someone out there had a definitive answer to getting a backup copy to work.

Just "archived" a 2013

I polished my factory disc and my head still would not read it but my PC could.

So I made me a new one and it is perfect and loads in a manner of seconds. Has a compass option I did not see in older versions

Feel free to PM...

Hey ahhh.. terrorist I see you drive an 05' clk... I don't think the 05' had the MCS-II type DVD's. I think there's a big difference.

I just made a backup of my current disc... Pretty easy. I put the navi disc in my burner. Hit "copy disc", it copied the disc and then asked to put a new disc in. Popped in a DL dvd and it burned at whatever default speed was... I didn't bother changing it to 1x speed. I never understood why this was always something people changed.. It's going to write the same amount of bits via 1x or 3x..etc.

After it burned it verified the disc and it was done.

Popped it into the car and worked fine.

I'm using Roxio for software. Used the same thing for when I burned a new navi disc for my Avic, no issues ever.

However it sounds like the issue might not be the disc, rather your actual player? If a new disc didn't work leads me to believe that might be an issue? What if you get the next version up that you currently own and update to see what happens?

Still stumped. The original disc works from time to time but any copies I make never work. Both members that have replied in this thread are driving 05' CLK's which do not use the MCS-II type DVD's. Unless someone can confirm a good backup copy of a MCS-II I give up.

There is a thread about a dozen or so below this one where eddie045 is offering pirated copies of 2015 discs through some mystery seller for $60. Some people bit. You might ask there if they work for people with newer cars. Assuming hey have even arrived. That will at least tell it can be done.
