2005 CLK 500 idle surging after stopping
Has anybody experienced this problem?
I recently replaced my camshaft position sensor because it was faulty, I'm not sure if this is related to that or just a coincidence. Now when I drive and come to a stop, after about 5-10 seconds of being stopped I can feel the car start to vibrate slightly. I don't notices a huge fluctuation in RPMs but they do bounce a little, less than 100+/-. But if I let that continue for a couple of seconds it gets much worse, feels like the car is going to stall and surging more violently. If I put it in neutral and rev the engine it clears up and is ok until I start and stop again. Once I did not put it in neutral right away and it got really rough and a lot of the console lights came on. I quickly put it in neutral and revved the engine and it was ok.
Also, it doesn't seem to make a difference if the engine is cold or hot, if that matters. It does this at about 90% of the stops I make.
I checked for OBD2 scan codes and it was clean, no stored or pending codes. Could this be related to a faulty camshaft position sensor or could it be related to the mass airflow sensor or tubing?

sounds like the intake manifold isn't installed correctly or some vacuum lines were either not installed correctly or are worn out. I'd have the intake manifold checked for leaks before anything else.

Thanks Daniel and Rodney. I think in this instance it's more likely a vacuum leak somewhere since I recently pulled off the mass air filter and disconnected that vacuum hose. I may have knocked something else loose in the process. I'll look it over this weekend and see what I find.

I only have 60K on it and it's always been garaged and not driven hard. That's probably a good idea to check out the tubes around there though. I may have cracked one when I removed the MAF.
