AMG steering wheel thickness vs non AMG

Could someone tell me if the AMG steering wheels that fit our cars are thicker than the non AMG ones? Was interested in putting one in my 500 from an SL55 (pic) included and just swap the guts over. Not interested in using the paddle shifters but I have a feeling this had a different plug than my clock spring has. I know to use the paddles theres a bit of wiring but does anyone know if this can be done easily or if I could be lucky enough that it would plug right up.
