I tend to disagree, as we are talking brake dust. The dark brake dust will show more readily against a silver background.

Hm... Black dust? I always thought it is grayish.

CLK W209
My hubs as you could see in the picture were pretty clean! And in the last week I've done about 500 miles. And the wheels were cleaned in that photo a couple days ago after most of that mileage, hence they're not too dusty, but they really were quite black, but the hubs are quite decent. I imagine though that most of the dust gets thrown out and catches more towards the outside of the wheel.

I agree with you. Most of dust in the edge of rim. I guess physics laws.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Brake dust color will depend on the pads. OEM pads will generate a dark gray, almost black dust. It can actually look "ruddy" on the silver rims. Ceramic or Kevlar pads tend to be more silver/white. That's one reason some prefer them over OEM - the dust isn't as dark on the rims. But personally, I prefer the OEM pads for performance - they just stop better.

I got EBC red stuff ceramics for all for corners. I bought them to replace my dusty OEM-like from previous owner. I bought them together with Zimmemrmans. True european brakes. No Chinese BS.

I just went back to OEM pads from EBC Yellow. They performed well and I think they are on par with OE for stopping. Stopping is my main focus, since I'm retired and have plenty of time to wipe the dust from the wheels...

I painted the hats black on my Sky using black caliper paint. It has held up very well for the past 5 years.

Could you explain how those stickers on calipers work? Don't they peel off? How do they get applied?

I ordered them from a specialty vendor. I installed them on newly painted calipers with no extra effort or chemicals. To be honest, they feel like cheap vinyl stickers, but have stayed on for 5 years plus.

Yup. They have a clear cover to position them, then you peal the clear off. Keeps all the letter aligned.

In my experience spray will look better, but goes on thinner, and often doesn't hold up as well. This would be especially true on brake rotors that get very hot and are covered with corrosive brake dust.

People who used G2 painting brush system had immaculate results for years. Professional result.
