Lock Driver's Seat
Hello everyone,
I drive a European-spec 05 CLK 320. It does not have power seats at all. All the controls are manual (backrest, position, headrest, etc...)
I've been having a problem where if I tilt the backrest forward to access the back and then put it back in its place properly (I can hear it lock), I get a message on the instrument cluster saying Lock Driver's Seat and the seat belt won't auto extend.
The fix so far is to tilt the seat forward again and then slam is back. I took apart the area in red below and inspected it and sprayed some contact cleaner, but to no avail.
Can anyone please recommend a fix based on their experience and if possible, please list the part number needed (the sensor and/or the lock)?
Thanks.

Out Of Control!!
All I can deduce from what you are reporting is that the electrical contact switch that reports the seat locked is failing and needs to be changed!!---It's the same when you leave your door open and start the car---wada you get!!

I'm going to take apart that entire asswmbly today and figure out what's going on. I was hoping someone could post the part number for that contact switch as I don't have my EPC on me for the weekend.

So we took the seat apart and found the contact switch (pictured below). The metal part which is supposed to press against the actual black plastic switch shows some fatigue so we straightened it out and then re-adjusted it.
We put it back together and connected an ohm-meter to it and we could see the open-circuit when the backrest was tilted forward and a short-circuit when the seat was tilted back and locked.
When we put everything back together though, the error is still hanging sometimes if the backrest is not forcibly slammed backwards. Sometimes it works normally, but most of the time the seat needs to be slammed back.
I think we need a new switch and I doubt it's sold separately because there was no part number on it. It's probably part of an assembly. I would appreciate if someone with EPC can check for me.
If not, I'll have to visit some used parts/junk yards to see if I can scavange a switch and try it out.

I believe it's all part of the latch assemble. Part number (left side) is A2098201310. Here for those in the USA, it's about $35:

The engineer in me wants to take it apart again and fix the part by carefully re-adjusting the metal clip since the ohm readings were fine, but I might just as well buy the new part and be done with it.
We'll see.

FYI, mboempart.com is one of the dealers in the parts.com network (MB Of Napierville, IL). Sometimes their prices may be a few dollars higher than parts.com, but you save the fees, and sometimes get free or low-cost shipping. I've had very good experiences with them.
