Mercedes Clk 200
Chipping
Hi,
I have an Mercedes clk w209 1.8 163HP kompressor.
I intend to chip my car, but what I wonder if the gearbox can be damaged considering that the car gets a new acceleration and dared allen moving faster up, Does the gearbox manage this?

Usually I can guess what people mean, but "dared allen moving faster up" has got me stumped. Anyway, assuming there is a chip or tune available for your car, most people use their original gearbox. You are not usually adding that much power. If you go from 300 to 800hp, then that's a different issue, but adding 10% or whatever is ok.

Power wise, you'd be fine, but you would need to look up the torque specs for your gearbox. Whilst it may be a 722.6/.9, not all the .6s have the same internals, and the same goes for the .9s.
I know on the gearbox in the 220cdi, power is 150 standard, ability to go to 180ish but torque with a tune can be taken to over 300lbs/ft quite comfortably. Taking it between the 220cdi and the 320cdi in terms of performance; similar to the 270cdi, which has to use a different spec gearbox, as the tune on the 220cdi takes the peak torque above that of the gearbox spec.
