2004 CLK500 trans issue?
Hello, all! Recently purchased a 2004 CLK500 with 102k miles on it, mom-owned, and garage kept. Overall, very happy with it. Check engine light was not on when purchased, but it came on yesterday and is back off today. There is a P0703 code stored, not sure if the scanner used is able to read TCU codes (it is pointing to torque converter which the new 13 pin plug adapter that is arriving today will hopefully fix?). Check engine light is intermittent. Would welcome any feedback or questions, thank you!
New adapter installed, plug cleaned. Check engine light is back on.
3 or 4 times now after getting on the throttle it goes through what seems to be a hard shift and throws itself in neutral and just revs. I have to pull over and put it in park and back in drive, then it's fine. Did a trans reset and seems to be shifting a little smoother. Got a couple solid pulls out of her and then I let my friend drive it and it did the neutral thing first time he got on it.

I don't see a translation from that generic OBDIII code to your car's DTCs. Here's the chart:

Also, generic OBDII scanners can only pull codes form the ECU. If this is a transmission problem, you need a different tool to diagnose it. I hear good things about iCarsoft i980 - it can read all MBZ systems, return the proprietary DTCs and reset all errors.
Besides any codes, the symptoms you describe sound like low transmission fluid. To check it, you'll need to purchase a dipstick (try Amazon or eBay - $20). The transmission dip tube is under then engine cover, down lower and more toward the center than the engine oil dip tube. It will have a tamper-evident seal, but it's OK to remove.

Thanks for a great response. An auto parts store nearby had a nice Dorman dipstick I picked up. This is exactly what it was. It leaked out around the 13 pin adapter while sitting for 5 or 6 months. All topped off today, including an oil change. She's running happy ( :
