Auto dim side mirror delete
Ok so my driver's side mirror on my 2009 CLK350 is starting to get hazy at the top. I just want to replace this with a non-auto dimming mirror, heated would be nice. I do not want to tack a piece of glass on top as the alien blood inside can still leak. Does anyone know of a good source for the mirror and backing and also is the mirror after the face lift different? I found several sellers on ebay from Latvia, but their description is lacking.
Has anyone removed the auto dimming part without hacking the mirror to hell? I hear there is a mirror under the auto dimming part.

Mine is starting to go as well. I was looking at the ebay replacements, wasn't sure about them either. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the subject.

The dimming features uses and LCD panel built onto the glass. When it dies, you need a whole new mirror glass. If you want to forgo the dimming feature, you can install a less expensive plain glass.

Looks like this will do it, no more toxic paint eating alien blood to deal with:

I searched 'mercedes clk mirror glass' and got better results than my previous search.

I just got one of those. My 2004 CLK 500 has a plastic trim piece around the mirror so I am going to try and trim the mirror down. If it was not for that piece of plastic it would probably fit fine. I am not the original owner of the car so I don't know if the mirror has been replaced.

Mine went bad as well and the auto-dimming ones are very expensive. So I opted for a non-dimming and bought one from a forum member on here and it even was the euro style one with the curve at the end. They are all heated (have 2 pins that need to be connected), only different is it is missing the big plug where the auto dim feature would snap into. With the windows tinted, I don't get much glare in almost all circumstances.

i think that plastic is on the auto dimming mirrors to keep the fluid sealed or something. the non-dimming one i have now does not have it.

Thats right, mirrors with that plastic on the edge means its an auto-dimming mirror. Mercs dont put auto-dimming mirrors on the opposite side of the driver. Guess you could say its a safety thing. My BMW has both mirrors that dim, and not a security issue at all.. just less glare.
