Installed new wheels!!!
Hey guys, I've finally saved up enough and bought my car a new set of rims. I'm 17 and I worked my *** off to finally afford these and I'm very happy. I also did little thing around the car like blacking out side turn signal on the bumper. I plan on installing quad exhaust but it's kinda hard finding someone that would do it for me, even though I have a non AMG appearance package I think I could still make it work out. Im also debating wether or not to remove the pin stripe. Let me know what you guys think about the wheels or the car in general. Thanks

Looks very cool.....especially when I think of the crap I was driving when I was 17.....although no 17 year old could insure that in the UK!!! ....yes loose the pin strip....not cool since about 1985!

Thanks, the problem with the pin strip is that it is painted. I don't know how to remove but I've seen on YouTube how people use laqeur thinner? I'm afraid if I used that it would eat right through the clear coat.

Maybe not 17, but I had my CLK270 at 18
She was my first car. Only £2500 to insure as me at main driver.
One thing I found was engine size made no difference on less 'common' cars. Typical demographic of a CLK owner is far different to a Corsa or Golf owner... So there's no data to base an insurance premium on. Similarly with the 4L XJ8s that I was also looking at. At 18 as a first car, insurance on one of those came back at as little as £1500-1600.
Here's my thread with my story, should you be interested...

Like the wheels a lot. Tell us more about them. Brand, size, where you got em, price?
I don't think you need the pinstripe. Congratulations on your hard work to save up for the wheels.

I'm very happy with them. They look and feel sturdy and not cheap. Yeah I know it was around $600 (with spacers) but I'm very happy with this purchase.

Something to try on the pinstripe.
I'm old enough to remember when commercial vehicles were all hand lettered with paint by people with talent. My dad had some new trucks lettered and then closed his business. A few years passed and we got complaints from neighbors about commercial vehicles in the driveway.
Contacted the lettering company and they suggested Easy Off oven cleaner. Turns out most hand lettering / striping is done with a product called Painters One-Shot and it doesn't like oven cleaner. We soaked it down and even though it had baked for a few years it came off. Took a few applications but finally it got the neighbour happy.
Of course you may have the same issue where the painted area has been spared UV and is brighter than the rest of the paint which highlighted the lettering in a two tone kind of way. Maybe not as paints are much different now than in 1986. Even if that was the case "it probably would buff out" as they say.
I'd try a small spot under neath a fender or hood to make sure the factory paint is alright with it and then test a small area on the stripe after. Yellow can of Easy Off from the grocery store. Might do the trick.
Cheers MXR.
