CLK 220 Cracked Cat Coverter Help
Hi,
I own a 2007 CLK 220 Coupe which I noticed had an exhaust leak due some funky smells coming in with the a/c. I got it looked at and the mechanic showed me a pic of a big crack in one of the Cats.
He basically advised i look online for a part - which is where i am a little stuck.
He explained to me that there are two cats, the one I want is the one attached to the turbo with no DPF... which is apparently the 'first' one.
So i'd love to look online somewhere for this part but I am apprehensive because I don't know what the damn thing looks like or have a part number or anything. I don't wanna go buying the wrong cat by mistake.
Can anyone shed any light? Much appreciated!

If it's just a crack and the rest is basically sound metal, why not just weld up the crack?....or get your tech to weld it up if you can't. Sounds like a straight forward repair to me.

Thanks for the response, he did mention welding it but he didn't seem too keen in honesty... I couldn't tell you why though... Maybe it was too big or something?
I'm a complete duffer with cars and mechanics as you might be able to tell. If it is as simple as that though I will give him a buzz on Monday.
In the meantime I guess it would be sensible to explore the other options.

I don't believe your 2007 has a dpf on either of the cats, I know mine doesn't, and that's a 56plate.
Euro car parts are decent, as are gmf.
You could contact Mercedes and ask them for the part number.. Say you wanted to check you had the right part. Idk, but I've had no issues when I have asked Mercedes Benz of Cardiff or Mercedes of Leicester for similar help. They've been very helpful in the past.
I have got a copy of WIS, but I can't check it atm, my computer with it downloaded on isn't uo and running.
