seat question

I have an 04 clk 500 coupe that has a torn lower drivers seat cushion cover. I have found a used one from a convertable. Is there any difference between the two.

Thanks

They are the same, but may sure they are the same style. I believe there were some different styles between model years and V6 vs. V8, etc.

One more question, I read somewhere that someone removed the cushion without removing the seat and unplugging the controls. I don't have small hands and for the life of me don't know how they did it. If I unplug those controls and do not turn the key on will I set off any errors?

Much easier to take the whole thing out. Yes as long as you don't put the key in you will be fine. Otherwise it will give an SRS error which only the dealer can reset.

I've replaces the cushion in a W203 (which is essentially the same) and I guess it's possible to do this in place, but I would not try it. Like TW2 says, just leave the key out of the ignition and there are no airbag worries.

I just completed this. The easiest way I found was to unbolt the seat and tilt it back. Gave plenty of room for these big hands. One caution I have is that The "U" channel that holds the front of the seat to the bar has molded clips that hold it to the seat bottom. So once you pull the 4 black pins that appear to hold the channel you have to gently pry those plastic clips out. Instructions found on this site were spot on.
