Remove battery for winter storage?

I will be storing my wife's '06 CLK 350 cab. for the winter and other than the usual reprogramming of presets, what could the other negatives (pun intended) be because I removed the battery?

Pump up the tires, a little Sta-Bil in a full tank, remove battery, crack open windows and cover.

Let simmer for 5-6 months.

Why don't you put the car on a battery tender?

From what I understand surges are what kills the SAM's. Make sure all accessories are off, disconnect the ground first and when you reconnect avoid arcing. Also store the battery off of concrete.
