Starter Fuse 52 blown

Hello,

About two weeks ago the car (2003 CLK320) wouldn't start. The starter was replaced about 3 years ago so I checked the fuses and fuse 52 a 15amp was blown. I replaced it with another 15 amp and got about 20 starts from it over the next 5 days before it blew again. After reading this forum it seemed the answer was that 52 needed to be a 20 amp, so I replaced the 15 with a 20. That was 6 days ago and now it won't start but the 20amp fuse is good. Replaced it with another anyway but still wont start.

I'm not sure where to go from here. Should I replace the starter relay? Any other ideas would be helpful.

Thanks!

My VIN Number is WDBTJ65J13F041431. It is an early 2003 model, I think made in Jan or Feb of 2003

I'd suspect the starter. This should be a 15 amp fuse. if it was blowing, the starter was pulling too much current.

Forget the starter that is protected by F56------F52 which protects the starter relay(the relay is in the front SAM next to F52) is 15A----forget the boneheads that suggest a change to a higher amperage-----fix the problem, the starter relay and put the correct 15A fuse back in the circuit

Fuse 52 = starter, fuse 53 = starter relay (relay "S"). Fuse 56 = ESP (unrelated to this issue).

Thanks for this entry, my CLK320CDI failed to start and seeing your post I looked at Fuse 52 and found it blown, start once I'd replaced it.
