Is it a 55 or a 43 manifold? I haven't looked it up to see if there''s a difference.

"Ooh, ooh!!
What about extrude honing the manifold?"
I would not even consider extrude honing for this manifold. I would have thought that too before disassembling it?

"What improvements did you make to the manifold, was it more like a nip here and a tuck there?"
A little more than that, I cut a lot of meat off this thing. I also worked on the perfect alignment of all the parts, they were not aligned perfect,
I also opened up the passaged for increased air flow, blended ALL the parts together for smooth undisturbed funnelled the air intakes (all 16 of them) and polished all passages.
Very time consuming, the kind of thing you expected AMG to have already done and would have done in the past for clients, since they claim these engines all built by hand! They are mearly cast and machined parts assembled by hand. This is race car type detail.
These metal shavings didn't fall out of the manifold when I opened it up! This was last night, only one of several times I wiped the bench off, there's more on the floor.

Looks aren't the important part, hopefully it'll run that way, Next project, finishing the 500E's new custom exhaust manifolds!!! That should be something to see also. After that maybe an lsd for the cab.

Should'nt you have left some of the surface area in the intake manfold unfinished? I was told that that is important.

It's alive. OMG!!! I love it if for the sound alone! It sounds like the new 6.3 engine. A real deep drumming sound.
I had to slam it together last night due to my brother showing up at the shop so we could go to dinner.
I had new PCV hoses to install but had to rush to finish, so there's a whistling vacuum leak I have to fix yet.
In spite of the vacuum leaks, the drive home and to dinner and back felt strong. Mid power is very strong too, 70-90 without kickdown seems way noticeably stronger. breaks tires loose with traction control swapping sides more times before hooking up. Could not keep my foot out of it for that sound alone. need to break out the video camera.
I need to fix the vacuum leaks, reset adaptations, run a few days and then get the G-tech emptied out of the before runs to make room for the new runs.

Well, Found the sound was actually a problem. I have rectified it with more modification. The 6.3 sound is gone but power is up even more.
Now to assemble the other intake. and my 500E manifolds, and maybe an LSD for the CLK55 as it needs it more.
This concludes this project.

Not yet, I have to put the wifes ML55 back together and get three cars ready for the Atlanta GTG this coming weekend. I have a couple more details to work out with the new setup this week yet. and I really want an LSD installed before the drags on Sunday. It's hell getting a new car modded with deadlines.
The CLK will be on the dyno, Don't you want to wait for the results? Seat of the pants feels strong though. Wish I still had the 6.3 sound too.

Well I may finally be done. Having pulled the intake four times for tweaking. It's strong and that 6.3 sound is back again. The intake is louder than the exhaust and wha t a fun car to toss around.
The one wheel peel followed by the asr kicking in and shutting off the power entirely on some occasions is getting annoying though.

Great work!
Sometimes I wish my CLK55 had a 6.0L M119 instead. I still think the 4.2L V8 in my E420 sounded better at full power than the CLK55. I wonder if it's a function of the smaller displacement?
But, no denying the great sound of the 55's exhaust!

Well, let me play a little more. I only found 25 dyno certified horses so far and I'm trying to squeak out a little more. It's not over yet. My 500E mods, which I have had for a few years more, net an estimated 388.3 H.P. based on 318.7 rwhp. Stock for this car is 322 hp crank and 264 rwhp.
I had a few people say i would find any H.P. in the AMG intake including Noah at the AMG meet before we Dynoed. So bear with me.

I made right at 25 more horses out of this setup as compared with the other CLK55's dynoed the same day. I told Carl i would post a current pic. But I'm not done playing. More later.

Now that's a site of beauty Rich! Thanxs for the convo yesterday on the diff. Where did you source the rubber or plastic piping and heat shield for your cold air setup? I wish to do the same Thanx!

Ahhh......you polished the valve covers it seems as well. Everything looks great man! Let carlski and myself know when your taking orders bud.
Being your a benz tech and all, how do the seals on the valve covers do in terms of leaking. I remember finding a few posts about a year ago concerning removing the valve covers and re-sealing them due to leaks. Is it a gasket, or sealant?? It looks like a sealant goes there. Mine is so dirty I can't tell what from what.
Keep this thread alive. 25+hp is nothing to ignore.
