AMG posers

I can't recall who the member is, but in his sig. it says "no engine, no badge" - you can't put it much better than that. AMG models are special, and signficantly lower production numbers than "regular" MBs. They encompass BOTH styling AND performance upgrades.
Slapping an AMG badge on any MB and trying to justify it as "well, I have the AMG wheels and/or body kit, so it's okay" is a pretty weak excuse, IMHO. Lots of MBs have the AMG styling parts... few have all of the performance upgrades, which are the true AMG models.
I guess I would pose the questions BACK to those who, either through their dealer or own their own, opted to add or keep an AMG badge on a non-AMG model, "why did you do it? what do you get out of it?" Personally, if I had a few AMG styling parts on my C230, and therefore decided to slap an AMG badge on the back, I'd feel self-conscious about driving it, and getting called-out by anyone who knew better. Maybe that's just me...

That varies, and could be argued back and forth. I see the point about it could "possibly" cheapen the brand of full AMG's to noobs (that don't know any better) that want to race. (I don't race) For me, if I saw a MB with a AMG Kit and the emblem, that would not phase me. For the non-AMG kit with badges yeah that would be a poser disposer moment.
However, on the what do I get out of it, is not much at all. The AMG emblem looked nice, I left it on. I think way too much is being placed on this point. The Kompressor badge is a no-no, and it is straight posing. The AMG emblem I think is up for grabs. If the car did not have the AMG Kit, wheels, etc, the AMG emblem would be a no-no as well. So I don't feel self-conscious about it at all. I know I drive a CLS500 with the AMG styling and it says so. No sleeper, no posing.
This could go into debate why change your grille to the AMG grille? Why would you debadge your car to make it a sleeper or to get a clean look? IMO it's all about the look you want to your car, and not a posing issue in this case. JMO...

A lot of time is devoted to the "fake badging" or posing debate. I understand the hating posers, but on one end, is it really that serious though? On the CLS forum, we had a discussion on it back a few months ago.
My situation was that when I bought my CLS, some moron had placed the CLS55 on the car which is a CLS500. I had the dealer to remove the 55, and put the 500 back on. +5 for myself.
The next part is the AMG badge issue. Being that my CLS has the AMG Sport Kit, the AMG stayed on. I don't think that is posing.
It was pretty much a agreed upon statement:
AMG Kit : Ok for AMG badge nothing else though. (No 55, 65, 63, etc.)
No AMG Kit/Not a full AMG : Nothing should be changed, that is posing.
V8 Kompressor Badge : If it is NOT a full AMG that is posing, period. A flogging is in order. LOL.
I think that is a fair assessment?

As for debadging - I haven't done it (yet), but personally I love the look of a debadged MB, just leaving the star in the back. I'm considering doing it to both the C230 and the C32 this summer...
And as for the rest - I agree 100% with Stiggs, sorry bigben. You don't have an AMG... so an AMG badge on the trunklid is posing, no real two ways about it. I do find it a bit amusing that, IMHO, roughly 75% or so of MB owners (and 99.99% of AMG owners) see this as a no-no, but the occasional MB owner (who, coincidentally, has an AMG badge on a non-AMG model 99% of the time) tries to defend it as no big deal, or justify their decision with the same old tired excuses... oh well.

Understand the comments, but I really did not put much thought on taking it off, or thinking that was posing. I do see a different viewpoint on it, as I did ask for your opinions and thoughts on it.
I did not offer any excuses however, and I explained that is came from the dealer with that on it. It had both the 55 and the AMG on it, and I had the 55 removed and the 500 put back on. I suppose I will remove the AMG but I am no big rush to do so.

Its alright, the dealer can take it off just as easy as they can put it on. We only tell you this to save you a bunch of embarrassment when you are on the road.

I dont mean to be an AS*, but when you roll in to the dealership ( SF ) they announce your name and made of your car. Which means, if you dont have AMG on the paper records they would look at you wried, i seem it happen to a w211 owner. Ps i feel bad for the w211 owner.

ugh...i came across an e55 poser just the other day...he did as best as he could, but once you open hood, its all over. he had the AMG rims on and had the body on but it still didnt look right...it was a freaking debadged e430 4matic...i knew something was weird when i looked inside and saw the
W and S option...since that edition was rare, only released in europe, etc. those who cant afford the upper class model shouldnt debadge and rebadge...defeats the purpose! not that there is a status level, or...caste system, so to speak, but i mean...c'mon..."no engine, no badge" says it so perfectly...

Saw a non-Sport C320 today. On the right of the trunk lid it said Kompressor. Nope.

I say screw the badges....I think the cars look cleaner without badges. I like to LEAVE them guessing...."WTF was that!?!?!?!" I don't own an AMG nor do I pretend I do, but my car goes a LOT faster than a stock clk500.

Just saw what can only be described as 'euro rice' today on the LIE. Some guy with an "ELIAS 1" license plate (sorry if you're reading this) had a brand new S550. The car had chrome EVERYWHERE you can put it. Around the windows, door handles, B pillar, rims, etc.
The car had quad exhaust tips. The only thing was, the outside tips weren't connected to ANYTHING. The outer tip was welded to the inner tip, which was attached to the muffler. You could totally see it just hanging along for the ride.
LAME - at least make the fake tip the inner one so you can't see it.

Found someone on the ML(W163) board who has AMG badges because he has the aluminum foot pedals.
I feel bad for the guy because he seems really nice. Oh well.
