Hey guys, I need to replace the motor mounts in my 2001 CLK55 and had a few questions. I cross-posted this to benzworld.org as well.
First, would you recommend replacing both motor mounts at once? What about the transmission mount? I've heard it's always a good idea to replace all three at once, but why exactly?
Second, where should I try and source these parts? I've found motor mounts (Lemfoerder?) at autohausAZ.com for $63 each. The dealer wants $191 each, and $81 for a trans mount. NAPA doesn't have mounts for the 55 or 430, but has CLK500 mounts for $144 each. Do the CLK500 mounts fit the CLK55?
Finally, is this a difficult repair to perform yourself? My father restores cars as a hobby and has a pretty extensive shop including various jacks and a hydraulic car lift. He says he has changed engine mounts before, but never on a Benz. Do you think we could manage this repair ourselves? If so, can anyone point me towards a good step-by-step guide?
Thanks for reading--I greatly appreciate any help.
Andrew
