LSD in CLK55?

I went to get a rear diff fluid change, and last night my dealer called to tell me that my car has a limited slip differential. It is a W209 CLK55 and I am very skeptical. I had to pay $2000 to get one on my C63, so it's sorta hard to imagine that it was standard on the CLK55. Based on a site search, it looks like guys are adding them, which make me further convinced. Can anybody comment? I bought the car used a month ago and have yet to shut of the TC and spin 'em up to tell for sure. Thanks in advance.

What year is your 209, Euro or U.S. spec?

I wish I had LSD...

As suspected, the car does not have a LSD. Turns out that they charge more for the diff fluid for LSD cars, so there was some incentive for them to guess wrong. Anyway, all straight now...so I still want one.

Yea it did seem bizarre.

No US CLK55 came with LSD, if you do the work yourself, you can get it done for about a grand.

Does taht buy you a quaife or some other diff? As for mods, I think I would liek to do the following:

- exhaust (and tune if necessary with exhaust)
- coil-overs
- something to slow the steering and make it more precise (if coil-overs do not)
- strut tower brace(s) or something to stiffen up chassis
- LSD
- iPod/Bluetooth + an amp and better speakers

I think that's about it. Thanks to all the folks on the forum for any help or suggestions.

Yup, Quaife.

If you do exhaust, don't touch the catback, you will yield next to nothing, The AMG setup flows nicely. This engine responds well to headers, IMO do not waste your time with shorties. Go for the Kleemann Mid Length headers with down pipes(deletes primaries) along with the Kleemann tune. Or if you have the cash, get the MBH long tubes. Either can be combined with high flow secondaries(on my to do list). Get a tune with this as well. Eurocharged is quite good.

From my research, the Kleeman setup yields about 25-30whp and the MBH with tune yields around 40whp.

Also get a set of high flow filters, I usually run K&Ns however I switched it up with AFE Dry-flows this time. Just wanted to try something different.

My next run of mods will be ReNNtech airbox(hopefully), LSD, and high flow secondaries.

Good luck, and don't be afraid to track it!

Thanks all. I sent a PM to MBH. As for the track, I like it, but this is not the car (it's a cab). I will stick to motorcycle track days for now. As for mods, my C63 w/ P31 was loud enough, but I truly cannot hear this motor...so I want more noise...and more power. Given the flexi cab chassis, the power is not as sorely missed as in a more performance-oriented coupe, but more would still be good. Aside from a little more noise for better feedback, I need more handling. This thing is so cushy. Just drove 90+ on the high speed sweepers near Mt Shasta (I-5 from Southern Oregon to Northern California) and it was hard to put the car right where I wanted it and hold a perfect line. So handling is the top priority for now...and motor noise...and better tunes...oh yeah, that's what they call a slippery slope.

I've had the Quaife LSD on my CLK for about 3 years now. Very pleased.
