How are you actually going to race this car? Are you talking about quarter miles in the track?

Stock numbers for the wrx are: 265 hp and 244 lb.-ft. of torque
You should be more than fine... |

Alright, but I still think CLK AMG still catches up the STI without looking it up. Anyway, your story sounds like your buddy is a chick. If this person is a chick telling you that a WRX is faster than your AMG, then she is just teasing you. I wouldn't take anything serious when a chick acts "dumb".

If you win, will you actually win anything? Anyone you're trying to impress will say, "It's a gazillion dollar Mercedes-Benz against a pedestrian Japanese sedan." If the WRX wins, then what? What will onlookers say about the same two cars? It sounds like a no win proposition.

From a roll you should have the advantage, from a dead stop if your friend can drive, I would be worried.
I have owned an 02 WRX, and a 05 STi, if you know how to launch, they are tough to beat out of the hole. And the 2009 and up WRX can rip 0-60 in under 5 seconds, and is a solid 13 second car. Those things can run 12's with bolt ons. They match the STi in acceleration now stock. Here is one with nearly 300whp on a mustang dyno with just bolt ons. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2220176 Cobb Stage 2 Running 12's(essentially a tune and exhaust) http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2256479 Hard to beat factory FI and AWD, lol.

On a turbo'd car, HP is highly based on boost. Minor exhaust mods such as removing the cat can dramatically increase boost. I have no WRX experience, but a pipe on an RX7 TII = 30% more HP. Its not uncommon for the exhaust mods to expose the intake as the next restriction. That sounds a lot like your friend's car. Can you outrun a car running 'who knows how much boost'? I have no idea, but you may be surprised how much power cheap mods on a boosted car can produce. Of course, bumping the boost just exposes the next bottleneck - not enough fuel, too much timing, toasted head gaskets, extreme blow by. . . . nothing that a little more cash won't fix.

Actually, have you been inside a WRX before? I did that once at an annual automobile show at San Francisco. The quality was so abysmal enough I wouldn't consider WRX is a great car. If I see a WRX challenges me, I would feel sorry for the driver and decide to not race against him or her.

Even against a WRX STI 300hp you should have the advantage

A quick search of you tube....shows wrx running 14's - 12's dep on level of mods.
Here's a "lightly" modded wrx running 12's....... if he approached you I'd be ready for a race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGsnzmQ9FFQ

A WRX with the mods you listed should not be really that fast. The mods listed are not going to add 65HP to the car.
What mods do you have to your CLK?? |

Why bother - your car was faster as delivered, and although they are fast cars, they are just very high performance street cars - bring it to the track and baseline yourself, and then learn to drive your car better in a controlled manner. These are high performance cars that you can drive every day, and roll in comfort - they are not drag cars (I run a couple of drag cars - my street mustang has pulled 9's with street tires, and my yellow cars is faster than I can drive it) - take care of your CLK, these are wonderful automobiles, even though it's fun to drag, there are many cars out there that will trailer one - have not yet seen sub 10 MB's, seen lots of sub 10 stangs, but I would not want to use one for daily transport, let alone a cross country trip.
