CLK newb

I am new to the CLK and MB's. I have played with a 335I and an Audi TT, so I do like the German cars.
I got to know the car a bit better today. Changed out the voltage regulator. Amazing to see what the shops wanted for that job!
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi to the forum and thanks to those of you that put all of this information out there for us.

Thanks. I've been looking at Renntech and OE tuning. Without trying to start some kind of product war...the numbers for their two chips are pretty similar but the Renn is almost twice the price. Is there anything to be aware of via service or quality issues for these two companies? BTW, so far, I've only considered an ecu upgrade. Any other suggestions?

One thing I miss about my BMW 335i, those twin turbo's made it much easier to tune the engine for some crazy numbers.

I highly recommend getting the Kleemann Headers and their matching Tune. Will transform the car. There was a sale on Kleemann Headers that still may be going on. Also, drop in a couple of AFE dry-flow filters in, you will notice difference in throttle response.

If you have a larger budget, look into getting MBH LT's.

Thanks, I will check out Kleemann. One question though. What the heck is MBH LT? I'm pretty good with acronyms, you lost me there.

Good luck with all that.

What made you ditch the 335 for the CLK55?

MBH - are you building W209 Clk55 lt headers? If so, it's on my list of mods.... then I'll sell off my kleemann mid-length headers/downpipes.

thx.

Good question. I was actually in a kind of cost cutting mode at the time. So I got rid of the 335 for an Audi TT. Then I got rid of the TT a few months later. My costs were really cut, but driving a Saturn Vue (even with the honda V6 LOL) was pretty boring.

I stopped to look at what I thought was a 535. It ended up being a 528. As I was leaving, they caught me and said, "We just got this AMG in. You can take it for a test drive." One thing led to another and I went home with my first Mercedes

The BMW (it was an '07) was a tighter car. Sportier. If I had to do it over again, I should have just kept the 335. I really miss that 6 speed. And those twin turbos could so easily be bumped up.... And to the unknowing, the 335 was really a sleeper. No "M" badge. Just looks like another cute 3 series until you hit the turbos!

Butttt, I have the AMG now. And I am pretty damn happy with it. this is my first experience with a high performance V8. The exhaust tone, the torque! Me likey. There is a certain mystique to having the AMG badge. Lots of Merc's around. Not lots of AMG's.

Looks like a little ECU work and maybe headers and exhaust after that and I should be set. Oh, and replace the 5spd auto with 6MT!

I hope to never see an AMG with a manual transmission. It would significantly alter the melody and flow that comes out of our exhaust pipes dnt you think?

I don't know you well. Are you joking?
Wow! The exhaust note would be in perfect harmony with my clutch pedal. What more could you ask for?

Nahhh.
Dont get me wrong I love MTs, this is actually the first AT car I own however I wouldnt like to see an AMG with it. At least not my AMG. The clk is a cruiser n a good one at that. No need for a third pedal...

All in all, I think you ended up with the better car. A huge plus is you will have no need to drive around with spare fuel pumps in the glovebox.

Mind this is coming from a guy who loves BMWs. Had a 2001 M3, and a 1998 540i.

I too would also love if this car was a manual. But since we are on the dream list, I would rather have the new 7 speed out of the C63 coupe.

My 335 did have to get two new HP fuel pumps! I think they finally got that figured out now.
I like your dream list. Now, if you could kindly deposit some $$$'s in my paypal, we can get to work on it!
Hey, do you guys get people want to test the AMG? Had two today. One was a Civic. I know some of them can be pretty fast. But this one wasn't! He kept passing me, slowing down, revving the engine. I just kept looking over and laughing.

You kind of bought the wrong car, the CLK55 is weak with the AMG 5.4 ltr V8. What you need for all out performance and speed is a CLK200.....AMG

....I'm kidding welcome to board the modding bug will bite you sooner or later. You better not have a wife or we'll be going to your funeral soon

Oh, the modding bug hit right away. The only thing that slows it down is the checking account.

I must say, I am a bit disappointed. I had hoped that the board members here would start filling my Paypal account by now! LOL
