CF bits for CLK63 coupe

Hey guys, been a while since I was last on here - hope you are all well.

Has anyone managed to source a CF splitter for the CLK63 or any other CF bits that might be of interest?

I already have the rear diffuser.

Cheers guys.

Hi mate,

I've always been on the look out for a front splitter - the CF piece that attaches to the bottom of the front bumper.

No one is able to get one for the CLK63 bumper.
The only one available are for the CLK55 front bumper.
The bumpers are totally different.

People have attached CLK55 splitters to CLK63 bumpers but they don't fit properly and leave gaps.

For years I have been looking for one.

As for the diffuser, I have the VIS racing CF diffuser.
It's nice. Compliments the car well and the guys at VIS were very helpful.
I even bought a spare one in case I need it in the future.

These are the only pictures I have to hand at the mo but it'll give you an idea.

Ok you mean the front lip.
I thought the CLK 550 bumper was the same (except appendices on the sides) than CLK 63 one.
Check this one

The VIS diffuser looks great. Do you need to mod the bumper to adjust or just with 3M adhesive ?
I am thinking about adding this VIS diffuser on my CLK63

Hi mate, yes, the front lip.

On the CLK63 bumper, the fog light housing areas are a slightly different shape and the whole lower edge of the bumper is more pronounced.

The diffuser was a great addition to the car and is still one of my favourite mods.
I didn't have to mod the bumper at all and the diffuser fits in the recess of the existing bumper.
I chose not to use the 3m tape that was supplied and decided to take it to my local body shop to install.

We keyed and prepared the inside contact areas of the diffuser and also the contact areas of the bumper itself and then bonded the diffuser on with some hardcore panel bonding agent. Set like rock.

As I said, the guys at VIS were very helpful and was kind enough to supply me with a spare diffuser in case I ever need it.

The bumper in the link you attached is a different bumper to mine.
It's a CLK550 or CLK55 front bumper.

There are front lips available quite widely for the earlier CLK bumpers but not the CLK63.

Check my build thread guys. There is a "splitter" for the CLK63 bumper. It's made somewhere in Taiwan I think. Check eBay...seems to be the only place to get it.

I've had it for a while now...no issues with it. Fitment is almost perfect.

Holy Moly... you might be the first person to bring my hunt to an end!

So, some questions before I snap one up.
You say that he fitment is "almost" perfect.
What is it that isn't 100% perfect?

And can you confirm that it definitely sits snuggly up to the bumper and doesn't leave any gaps like the splitters for the CLK55 bumpers do?

I've been itching to get a splitter that is actually made for the CLK63 bumper.

Also, how did you install it?
Did you use tape or a bonding agent?

How safe has it been on the bumper?
I've heard of a few people who have installed splitters who have had the thing damn near tear itself off at high speed...

Some very honest feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks bud.

Haha yeah took some digging but we're lucky somebody makes one.

Fitment - No gaps, as it's designed for the CLK63 bumper. I just applied a thin layer of black gasket maker between the bumper and the lip to hide any possible gaps. Fitment is nice and tight.

Install - Sticky tape on top, a couple screws on the bottom. The gasket maker (black silicone) that's applied around the entire lip helps secure it as well. It's not coming off. If this is a concern you could always use some BETALINK to glue it on permanently...though I don't recommend it, in case you need to take it off.

The only issue I've had around here is actually the roads...it's taking a beating because of all the damn driveways, speed bumps etc...You probably won't have issues with this in the UK though.

All in all it's a good part...fits well and looks good.

Hi mate,

Thanks for your feedback.
Much appreciated.
The fitment is crucial to me.

How is the quality of the weave and clear coat?
Is it consistent?

As for scuffing it on the ground, I'm hoping I won't have that issue as I decided against lowering my car.

Have you lowered yours?

I'm hoping/ guessing that'll I'll be fine as I have pretty compliant ground clearance.

If I get it, I may be inclined to bond that sucker on.
I really don't want it ripping itself off under wind resistance.
Agree with the use of screws. Better to add a couple of screws underneath.

I'm waiting to hear back from the seller to find out how much they want for the splitter + shipping to the UK....

Thanks for all these informations.
On my CLK 63 my favorite mod (not for eyes but for ears) is the blip throttle with a full ECu/TCU flash. The car is really a beast now.

Weave is good and so is the clear coat. The carbon fiber part actually ends about 2 inches after the lip on the bottom. The rest is black. That's my only issue with it...but who cares as nobody sees it.

As far as bonding it on I advise against it. The part is pretty flimsy as all these fiberglass lips are so if it breaks you need to be able to take it off. The 3M tape, screws and silicone make this thing ridiculously sturdy. You'd have to break it to take it off.

Yeah I'm lowered about 1.5in but that's not the issue. It's poor driveway construction and ****ty roads in general haha.

I love the lip overall...your next step after the lip should be a rear diffuser. The car will look very unbalanced with a large front lip and nothing in the back.

Hey bud,

Again, thanks for the feedback.
Very much appreciated.

I hear what you say about fitting the splitter.
I'll take this onboard.

I also hear you about conditions of roads.
They're pretty shocking over here in the UK too!
But I usually run recon before making any unfamiliar journeys so I should be able to keep myself out of trouble.

I also only use my 63 at the weekends and only when it's dry.

As for the diffuser, yes, I already have one on. The VIS one.

I also installed the Renntech CF intake system for the engine too.
Pretty much just for a show piece really.

OK, I will give this splitter some thought.
I've already pinged a message over to the seller so I should hear back from them soon.

I'll keep you updated!

Thanks again bud. Really appreciate your help.

Will do.
I notice that you have the centre lower section of your bumper blacked out.
How well does the splitter follow this section of the bumper?

I only ask because I don't intend on blacking out the centre section of my bumper and need to know that the splitter cleanly and consistently follows the line of the bumper right the way across, from left to right.

The fitment really needs to be bang-on as I am bit OCD about my car....

Take a look at this (not my pic):

In other words it's close. I have it blacked out because I like it better that way, not because it doesn't fit.

Hey bud,

Thanks for the additional picture.
And yes, I hear you about the blacking out of the bumper.
A few guys over here have done that too.

Without putting you out of your way too much, would you be able to post up some closer shots of yours if you get time?
Doesn't have to be today.
I still have a couple of days before I am likely to hear back from the seller anyway.

Just need to be sure before taking the plunge.

That's again bud and have a good weekend.

OCD.... it is a curse sometimes!

Yes, it does look like a nice, tight fit which is good to see.

I'm looking to buy it very shortly.

Splitter ordered.
Now the impatient task of waiting....

Many thanks to you, MegaCrazy.

Haha yeah we have exactly 1 option when it comes to a splitter and that requires digging to even find it.

Let me throw some random words in for other people to find this in the future: Godhand W209 CLK63 front lip carbon fiber cf splitter

Indeed!

Just glad I managed to hook up with you to learn about this splitter.
As you say, we have little options, so I kinda have to get it and see how it goes.

It's either that or concede that I will forever be without a splitter!

I'm hoping to have it with the next week.
Then the nervous task of offering it up to the bumper to check fitment.

If all is well, I'll get it on asap.

I've decided to bond it on.
I really don't want the thing coming loose over time.
